If that was the case, not every trail marker should be eligible (because there can be more than one marker on a section of the trail) and the nomination should be the trail and not the specific markers. -

I think you keep missing (or omitting?) the point that the trail marker is a stand-in for the trail, like the sign is a stand-in for the church. But I do understand your point in the case where the marker is for a right of way, not an actual trail. I think it's important to keep that as a separate issue than trail markers… -
