I had this Wayspot accepted on Friday (7/3), and since it is seemingly in an empty cell, I figured it would sync as a PokéStop. According to the map, though, it appears to have synced as a Power Spot. I’m wondering if there was a monthly Power Spot sync that happened before the daily stop/gym PoGo map sync, and it snagged it first, or if there’s something else going on that I’m not seeing.
Daily Pokemon Go sync appears to have been skipped on the 4th of July, but the regular 4th day of the month Power Spot sync seems to have happened. Sync is rolling out about now, and another spot this happened to is showing as both a pokestop and gym on the pokemongo.com map.

I would expect the Power Spot to go away when the boss leaves.
