In the middle of my housing estate is a green space with a childrens play area containing swings, slides etc. This play has been a pokestop fro many years. The title is Forgemill Estate Park. However it sits within a larger “Park” area I want to nominate. Now, if i suggest an edit to the original Pokestop to call it a playground and then nominate the larger greenspace/park area as the park, am i breaking any rules? Or is this okay?
I read the above page, which was really helpful and have me a lot of insight and ideas for Pokestop nominations and helped me understand why others have been rejected. It also shows greenspaces in neighbirhoods are valid nominations. I assumed they would be treated as generic places. Oh, and nice to meet you all.
I also tried to edit the pokestop location to maximise cell optimization, i tried moving the pin, still within the playground area but to the edge. After reading through these forums I can see this could constitute abuse and tried to cancel my edit but its now in voting. I used the chat bot to open a ticket. Hopefully i dont get in trouble.
Great that you realized that, help chat should be able to pull that for you!
Welcome to the forum. The title should always reflect the wayspot, if there is nothing wrong with the title as it is, it also does not require an edit.
Thanks for the reply. To avoid my nomination getting rejected as a duplicate should I title my submission for the larger park area as:
Forge Mill Greenspace
Forge Mill Communal Area
Or something along those lines?
The current playground is called
Forge Mill Estate Park
If the current wayspot is a photo of the playground and described as the playground, then it is legitimate to submit an edit so that the title is about the playground, e.g., 'Playground in Forge Mill Estate Park".
If the current wayspot is described and titled as the park, but uses the playground as the photo, this is trickier.
Yeah, its tricky. As if I can get a nomination in this cell we get a gym in estate, and over the years ive found quite a few of us play here. See description below. Doesnt look good, and i dont want to get in trouble by an automated system for abuse for edits.
Oooo, i have an idea. I successfully updated the picture of the playground recently as the old one was taken a long time ago and the colors were washed out. If i can change the picture to the larger park area as a whole which is inline with the description and then i can nominate the playground?
It happens to sit on a cross grid section too so can safely nominate thr playground whilst remaining within the confines of the nominated area.
Hello and welcome @Jovetic
Is it possible to share the location of the park so we can look at the area.
The description is about the the whole park so I think it would be considered as repurposing as too much needs to be changed.
Perhaps by looking around we can help suggest things.
Yup. Thanks for the assistance.
Here is what i want to nominate.
Title:
Forge Mill Community Green
Description:
A shared community green space for Forge Mill residents, used for walking, outdoor recreation and informal social gathering.
Supporting Information:
Council-maintained communal green space with safe pedestrian access and regular upkeep. Separate from the existing playground Wayspot, this enclosed recreational area is intended for residents to walk, exercise and socialize. Niantic’s Wayfarer criteria state that parks and recreational green spaces may be eligible even without a physical sign when they are clearly intended for community use.
And here is the google maps of the location

Ok I would leave the play area as it is.
It is unfortunate in terms of the overall picture, but I think trying to change things would risk being regarded as manipulation.
For the wider park it will be tricky as it is not large. It’s a weak candidate so could fail.
I would recommend focusing on this entrance.
There is no signage but it is a distinct anchor point. So Forgemill park entrance.
Mention the park has play area and it looks like a set of goals for practising football as well as open space for informal games and shaded areas for socialising.
If there is a specific parks and leisure website mentioning this park include that link.
Otherwise a longer term strategy would be to talk to a local councillor to see if a picnic bench could be installed or if other community based initiatives would be given permission eg a little free library to allow bookswaps - great for kids and adults.

I would point out this is the central and only green space for this estate.
It is a typical estate of this time so there little there other than this park.
Nearby there is a footpath on the other side of the railway line. I can’t see on streetview but there should be a public footpath sign which is eligible.
At the sport centre there is scope for more
These look like a stand for the rugby and a stand for the football?
It is a social activity to watch and support the play on the pitch so 2 possible wayspots
The football wayspot is poorly placed on the field of play. Ideally it should be moved to the edge behind the goals is typical but so are the corners. You can use help chat to suggest the location edit.
Omg, thank you so much for these suggestions! I did recently get a rugby pitch approved just north of there i need to edit as i put the marker in the center of the pitch and did not realise at the time we need to put them from a spectatre pov. Im really enjoying exploring my area and trying to get stuff in. Just north of my estate is Ystrad Mynach College which got rejected last week. Its not a K12 so not sure why it got rejected. Im gojng to find that trail marker you mentioned with my daily insense now. Wish me luck on a G Bird.
No footpath sign behind my estate, i decided to follow the path for a bit to check, i did find the biggest bull id ever seen. Didnt think he would stay still for pic so ran for it.
Most interstijg thing i found, after the bull was this.
On my way back down I noticed that the Church has a notice board. The church itself is a Gym, could the notice board qualify separately? If i pinned the noticeboard then it sits in my s14 cell for my estate and the church in an ajoining one.
Additionally, there is this Bench that has a verse on it.
Im going to find one even if it kills me, bulls an all! Haha
That isn’t an information board and would just act as a proxy for the church, so isn’t eligible on its own.
The bench with the verse on it looks eligible. Visibility from streetview would help a lot; without this, I would use the web submit at Niantic Wayfarer and use several supporting photos to prove the plaque is there.
That stile doesn’t appear to have a footpath marker, but is potentially eligible as the entrance to the open space, dependent on location and what is nearby.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will pop out and take some more photos of it now showing it is on there from further away. Mmm, must be quite recent as it’s not on Street View
Just took these, any good?
That should work assuming it ties to the bench being visible on streetview. I would say in the supporting text that streetview is from [YEAR] and the plaque is newer than that, but the bench can be matched. Acknowledging and addressing the issue should help.
I had submitted the College near the bench a few days ago, it had been rejected before but after using the Forums for suggestions its now been accepted. From what Ive read about how a Pokestops become gyms on interactions etc, there has been one outside my house for10 years. Guess what happened? No, it wont become a gym, because recently it became a showcase. 10 years of only 1 stop in the estate, 2 weeks before a new accepted stop just outside the estate haha. I guess thats life
Anyway, thanks gor all the help.
I believe that the old system was based on Photo Votes but it now seems to have a large “random” part to the algorithm.
It seems that “Showcases” are removed from the options and then it randomly picks one of the rest.
If this is only the 2nd wayspot in the L14 cell then you are right that the new 1 is the likely Gym candidate.
