  • Additional Information (if any): Another wayspot from many in the same area that was removed. This time it’s an old one from before Pokémon player could rate and the rules prevented low quality wayspots to come online.
This wall was build before the neighboorhood was established and was called the “Berlin wall” from Oldenzaal. This piece of art was designed by Frans van Es with this unique idea for a uniform piece of art that stands out and is easily recognized by people from town.

What makes this wall even more special is that each stone comes from a lava quarry just above Rome (Italy). This is why I chose the name ‘Romeinse muur’ (Roman wall) over Berlin wall, due to the history with Germany and the Berlin wall that could be considered controversial by some. I might have miscalculated this back then. The wall has some passage points, but it’s full lengt is 360 meters. I’ve submitted the start from the longest uninterupted part, which is 230 meters in lenght.

There was a ceremony with the politics from Oldenzaal to finish the wall, the whole article can be read (in Dutch) at https://www.tubantia.nl/oldenzaal/muur-van-360-meter-als-baken~a44ea057/ This article calls the wall a image-defining element.

As interesting as it is, it does appear to form the property boundary of several single family private residences, so I’m not sure Niantic would restore it.

You mention that this is from the old OPR days, but even back then things got accepted that shouldn’t have been. I’ve had to report a few OPR wayspots for removal as they’ve been on PRP.

Thank you for letting me know this point of view. I want to make clear that this wall is not part of the property from backyards, but is build behind it. Like in this extra added screenshot you can see a hedge from the property owners is behind it.

Days before this wayspot was removed, it was moved behind a few meters, which make me suspect this was done to make it eligable for deletion. I tried to undo this movement via wayfarer, but it was too late.

In the old OPR days things were very hard to get accepted.

Looks like a solid wayspot to me. They should definitely restore this.

Thanks for the appeal, @kenbeimer. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
