Anyone for a manhole cover as a plaque

I rejected this as a fake nomination. As well as being on private land

Nice try for a manhole cover to be nominated as a plaque…

One of the biggest producers of manhole covers was Needhams. So locally we have quite a number of information signs about them. This includes a series of special ones created as an art project to commemorate their work which can be found all over the world.

We have a PoI locally that is a drain cover. It was installed by the water company to commemorate the annual pride festival in 2021.

It’s called “Every rainbow needs a little water to shine”

These are really cool!

I love that quote.

Me too, I like getting this one as a gift. The water company are big supporters of the pride festival. They’re a very poor company in many respects, like actually dealing with water in a safe way, but they do some good things

Thames water should spend more time delivering better services at the right price.. Just saying as good as that manhole cover is…But my local village lived in sewage leakage for a year. As did the four villages down stream

It was no rainbow. Just saying

Back to my post. Was I right to reject. Just the POI was in a garden. The manhole cover was reported as heritage. It was not. Google street view could not see it on the outside of the property. I dunno if I missed something

Yeah, agreed, a local longstanding river swim got cancelled this year due to raw sewage. But hey, lots of creative accounting and bonuses going on, leaves little for actual work right?

If it was in an SFPRP garden, definitely a reject. It was also not a plaque. I have no issue with the idea of a PoI for a drain cover but it needs to be in an eligible location and an interesting item, and a good submission

Oh wow, I really like that! Absolutely disgusting job, the people involved deserve a “commemorative plaque” in manhole form!

I so hope that these are not in the road but on the footpath. Just so I could nominate. These are great examples of what could work.

Love it

I Love those manhole covers, this one which I nominated is designed as the Swedish 5 penny-coin from 1940.

Have seen other examples of manhole covers designed as coins in Sweden, like this one in Sigtuna that is one of the oldest minted coins in Sweden (about a millenium ago) - and they have in total if I remember ~15 covers on the same street with representing different coins
