Appeal for False Positive Warning – Title Edit

Wayspot Title: PureEdge Lighting
Location: Chicago, IL
Date of Warning Email: July 21, 2026

Hi Team,

I’m posting to ask for a manual review to clear a 1-day account warning I received for an “incorrect or spam edit.”

I submitted a title edit for the Wayspot “PureEdge Lighting” to change it to “Lightology.” The physical building itself is branded as Lightology, and as shown in the attached screenshot, both Lightology and PureEdge Lighting share this exact same facility.

I submitted the edit in good faith based on the physical signage and shared corporate presence, not as an attempt to spam or abuse the map. My appeal was rejected for “repurposing a Wayspot,” which I understand, but receiving a policy violation for a reasonable title edit was a false positive.

I completely accept leaving the title as PureEdge, but I respectfully ask if a moderator can please clear the policy violation warning from my account history. If this is the wrong place to ask for this please let me know - the appeal page only states you can appeal a suspension there.

Thank you!

Hey @lilkny ,

Pure Edge Lighting and Lightology are two completely different businesses. Aren’t they?

Thanks,

I see why you were trying to “correct” the wayspot to what you can actually see there, but that is not how Wayfarer works. If the business isn’t there, you can report it for removal, not edit it to what is there.

So that this isn’t completely a bad experience for you, I wanted to offer a suggestion for something you could submit that should be eligible to become a Pokestop. I see there is a Google Label for a fitness business nearby. If this is actually there, I would recommend you submit it.

Reviewers will sometimes reject for “Generic business” but these are normally accepted by the appeals team when that happens. Fitness business meet exercise criteria, and usually social, too.

So, I’ve just had a look. PureEdge have their contact details as 1718 West Fullerton Avenue (see here), and Lightology have that exact same address at the bottom of their website (it’s the corporate address, not the showroom, as seen here). Additionally, both websites directly and prominently mention the other company. PureEdge has Lightology listed as the first place you can buy their products, and Lightology lists a load of PureEdge products first and foremost on their website.

Looking into it further, it appears they both share a CEO (Gregory Kay). So same CEO, same business address (which only seems to have the Lightology name on the actual building). It sounds like they’re almost like two different departments of the same business, rather than two entirely separate businesses. One half seems to be more about the manufacturing, whilst the other seems to be more about the actual retail. I’m not a business expert by any means, I’m just relaying what I’ve found here. I can certainly understand why @lilkny attempted to make the edit, and I can also understand why it may appear to be repurposing according to the rules. It’s certainly tricky and I can’t say I would want to be in your position for this one, @NianticAaron

Even if it counts as repurposing, I don’t think it warrants a flag against the account.

I appreciate the support everyone! @NianticAaron I did a little research myself with the help of everyone’s responses above. It looks like they are sister companies but only identify the building as Lightology on the outside - I thought I was just correcting a mistake on the name when I submitted the title change request. I did not mean to flag myself for abusing the system.

Thank you for the suggestion @cyndiepooh ! I will submit that one later today!
