Appeal Rejection of New Wayspot

Detailed information below. Thank you for taking a look!

  • Wayspot Title: Fox Run Trail - West Trailhead

  • Location (lat/lon): 45.128610, -92.505973

  • City: New Richmond, WI

  • Country: USA

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): I suspect this was rejected because the reviewer thought it was just a normal sidewalk. This is the image of the trail - maybe my shadow and the homes make it a bad photo? I can crop it or try on a cloudy day if you think that’s the problem.

Fox Run Trail is a short walking trail that curves around the pond, allowing visitors to experience the area’s natural scenery while enjoying a quiet outdoor walk.

I included a link to my city’s official hiking trail map, but it may have been missed. This is an official paved hiking trail that was recently added to the community, and I’m quite proud of it, since we don’t have a lot of interesting things in our neighborhood.

Honestly, it doesnt look like trial. And your shadow make it worse. Usually you need marker for trail

What would make it look more like a trail? I choose the trailhead instead of somewhere in the middle because that’s an actual POI. I think I definitely need a picture without my shadow, though.

Welcome to the forum! The reason the appeal was rejected will be on your contribution. If you don’t see the statement, try refreshing the contributions page. Or the browser.

The Wayspot Appeals category has a specific purpose:

This post will most likely be moved to Nomination Support since there is no official pathway to appealing an appeal decision.

The link you gave for the trail being official does seem convincing to me. I do wonder if being between the homes with no clear boundary could be the reason for rejection. Or if it is the lack of a clear anchor for the Wayspot.

The trail isn’t there yet on satellite view.

If you can get official put in sign name in entrance, that would really help

Hello and welcome @GeeseElise

It is not obvious where the best place is post. As Cyndie has said this is better in nomination support so I will move it. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

There were two statements about why it was rejected:
“The submission lacks uniqueness or historical and cultural meaning”
and
“The nomination in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it is a normal walking path.”

Okay, so they did think it was just a sidewalk type path.

I am not sure what to suggest for a resubmit. I think I would wait until there is no snow for another attempt. If you have any influence with the city or the homeowner’s association, try to ask about having signs installed, as was already suggested.

I can’t see anything there on satellite view yet, but hopefully there will be some things you can submit at the park.

Is this park just planned or does it exist already? I assume they mislabeled it and it should be Fox Run Park

The trail is called Fox Run Trail, and there is a park that it goes through as well (although nothing is currently there, it’s just nature). It is pretty new, so Google Maps doesn’t show the full path yet.

You’re right - that does look mislabeled. I was using this interactive map to prove the existence of the trail:
https://cityofnr.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6b68721401154ffb9095822821778772

I have been using the web submission route.

This allows up to 5 supplementary images. This gives flexibility to show more about the location, including screenshots of trail maps to illustrate what it is and where it goes. I include the weblink in the supplementary text too.

I’m not clear if this is designed as a long walk or as an access point to the new park. So that needs addressing.

If it’s going to have the park finalised soon it might be worth waiting for that to happen and any signage that may be part of it???

I actually just shot an e-mail to our park superintendent to ask what the plan is regarding signage and park “things”. They’re notoriously bad at communicating this sort of thing to residents…

I do think that once more signs have been put up you’ll find a bunch of nice stuff to submit  If there is any signage by that pond, or any other community structures like picnic benches, view points etc that would work too! I’m not too familiar with how things work over there but surely infrastructure like playgrounds, sports fields etc will be added at some point? Could you petition to get some?

This guide might be useful (even if your area isn’t rural)
