Took the photo and the location is definitely less than 5m even. Appreciate help. How do i do the recording?

[Wayspot(s) / Nomination(s)] Investigated:

  • Badminton court

Context: We have reviewed the additional images provided. While the badminton court does exist in the vicinity, the nomination pin was placed on the nearby building, resulting in an offset of approximately 20 meters from the object’s actual real-world location. It is important to remember that weather conditions do not exempt a nomination from location accuracy rules. All Wayspot nominations must be pinned exactly on the object being nominated, rather than the location from which the submission is being made. Placing a pin away from the object’s true location is a direct violation of our policies.

To help us investigate your claim that the map interface prevented you from placing the pin accurately and defaulted to the nearest object, we kindly request some additional evidence. Please reply directly to this email with a clear screen recording demonstrating this exact pin placement issue occurring when you attempt to place a marker on the badminton court.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I have reviewed the Street View and aerial imagery. In Street View, a green court is visible just south of the location you specified. However, as pointed out, the pin is located on the building and is misplaced by 20 meters rather than 5 meters from the badminton court. When specifying a location on the map via either the game app or web submission, you can adjust the pin from the GPS-measured position to the actual location.
If you experience issues with that feature, I recommend using your device’s screen recording function to capture a video and uploading it to YouTube to share it. I previously saved a video to Google Drive, set it to public, and sent the URL, but found it a bit difficult to set up.

oh the pin got into the building.

Possibly about 10m ?

Yeah, as you can see, the badminton court is caught in the building’s shadow in the aerial photo, making its exact boundaries hard to see. I could tell it was there via Street View, though the small mound in the foreground blocked the view of the northern edge.
Also, satellite imagery and map coordinates don’t always align perfectly; since the photos aren’t taken from directly overhead, high-rise buildings can cause significant shifting on the map. When I measured it roughly on Google Maps, it was about a 14.7-meter offset.
That said, whether it’s 10 meters or 15 meters, we shouldn’t misplace the pin away from the actual feature. In this case, I think we can pinpoint the correct location by using the row of trees to the south and the parking lot to the west as landmarks. Let’s be more careful next time!

It’s a better view on Apple Maps as there is less shadow and you can now see it.

But I find the angle makes it tricky.
I don’t know if it’s correct but I placed the pin at 1.37430, 103.77361

Don’t know if this helps.

Thanks all. I’ll be more careful moving forward. That said, it was a bit difficult to accept the outcome, as the initial investigation indicated a 76m offset, which didn’t seem to align with the actual placement. Thanks all for the help

Hello and Welcome,

I assume that Niantic used the 2 “Tennis” Courts that are clearly visible.

It’s an error on their part but the outcome is still the same “misplacement”.

Good to hear someone that accepts their error and plans to take more care in the future.

Good luck and lets hope for a smoother process for your future nominations.
