Hello everyone! I 'd like your input regarding an issue that came up recently concerning an edit.
On February 27, I had a wayspot location edit approved by the community. However, the wayspot has yet to be moved to its new spot. Even more peculiar, while it’s location remains the same in both the campfire map and in-game (37.929444, 23.634889), in the wayfarer map it appears to have been moved to its post-edit spot (37.929494, 23.635084).
I have already contacted wayfarer support and they pointed me to the in-game support. Naturally, I contacted them too last Friday but I have neither received a reply, which I know is not uncommon, nor seen the wayspot location updated. Any suggestions are welcome, as well as any interpretations concerning the discrepancy between the maps, I 'm really curious about that.
Thank you for your time!
Welcome to the forums
The wayfarer map does indeed to show it at what you have referred to as the post-edit spot. it’s not possible for anyone on this forum to see where it is in Pokemon Go unless they are physically there.
What is curious is why this location edit was made, given that the main photo for this church (?) is a random part of the back of the building and the wayspot has been moved from the front to the dead centre, which is definitely not where church wayspots normally go.
Hi!
Yes, it’s a church and the photo is definitely kinda random. I like it though since it somewhat resembles a castle, which is definitely funny to me.
I was not aware of churches having a specific preferred point of nomination, please do point me to the relevant material if it’s not too much of a hassle. The reason I made the edit was that the wayspot is currently located on the stairs rather than on the building itself. As for choosing to place it dead center, I thought it was much more representative a spot. Once again, any corrections are welcome.
Normally for a wayspot representing a large facility (church, sports field, park, etc) the spot would be placed at a name-sign or an entrance. Specifically for sports fields, the guidelines suggest a boundary rather than in field of play. That allows its use as a wayspot without disrupting its normal use.

Thank you for the clarification, good to know for future reference!
Still itching for an explanation regarding the discrepancy though, I have never seen anything like that that happening before.
I’ve seen delays of up to five days before Wayfarer changes make it in game (new stops being added, location edits, etc). Has it been longer than that since you got the approval?

Yes, it’s been 10 days at this point, which is why I started contacting support and finally decided to post here, hoping for some resolution.
I can’t find the actual reference (e.g., a post from Niantic), but the standard advice for buildings is that the wayspot should be at the natural entrance unless there is an overriding reason for it to be somewhere else.
With two obvious and equal entrances, you can pick whichever one you want. With a main entrance and a side entrance, the latter used mostly for staff and deliveries, picking the side entrance would be a red flag.
Putting the wayspot in the centre of a building is very unusual, unless it is for a key architectural feature that is in the centre. That is definitely not the case here.
There is however no indication of any abuse, since the entire church is in a single L17 cell. That, as it happens, has both a pokestop and a gym.

Niantic staff choose their own location when confirming location edits. They might accept the proposal or choose a better location. Their decision here is surprising.

Thank you, that’s quite informative.
In this church there are actually three entrances, although I wouldn’t call them equal, to be honest.
There is a secondary reason I made the edit that may or may not fall under the overriding circumstances that you mentioned. The current wayspot is very close to the other one you spotted in the same cell, making the pokestop quite difficult to spin. I do realise that this by itself is not a valid reason to edit the location but it is what pushed me over the edge when contemplating whether or not to edit.
Do you believe that the best course of action is to move the wayspot on one of the other entrances?
I’d leave it where it is if it appears. it might not though, as the delay in Pokemon Go might be due to the cell being overloaded. It is stays where it is, just run with that. Your location edit was done without malice or abuse, so you have done nothing wrong.

I see. Thank you for all the information and for taking the time to answer!
Hopefully, someone from the staff will also chime in to shed some light to the technical aspect, like confirming your theory about possible delays due to overloaded cell.
