Archival Pokestops?

Curious if folks can link me to any other posts about this or already existing.. petitions? Requests? to make this a thing in Pokémon Go if it’s not already implemented, and if it has already been implemented, a link to a guide on how to do this.

A building in my city that I love with several murals that are established Pokéstops is set to be demolished some time in the next decade to make way for a new development, and me being the sentimental person I am, I am… very upset by this.

From what I understand, Pokéstops can be reported and deleted if they’ve been demolished, and while I understand the reasons behind this, I would personally love to see this little piece of city history live on, even in something as small as a little picture of a Pokéstop in the game. Is there a way to nominate particularly historic or sentimental Pokéstops to be protected from deletion if we know they’ve been set to be demolished?

This particular building is not protected by the city under any historical designation bylaw (even though it probably should be), likely due to it being less than 200 years old and more working class blue collar history than having governmental or affluent associations, and the murals reflect this rich community history.

I’ve been sad about the prospect of this beautiful building not being there any more, and so when the idea occurred to me that maybe there would be a way for the pokéstops to be made more permanent, that gave me a little boost of hope and pride.

Short answer: no. You are under no requirement to report them, but someone most likely will.

Hello and Welcome,

Take a screen grab in game, download image from the map.

IMO keeping some waypoints for historic reasons is a bad idea.

Who will decide what is “Historic” and should be kept and what should be allowed to go.

Maybe the new building will have a great wayspot but the cell is blocked by something that nobody can explore as it no longer exists.

If you are saddened by the changes you could do something that anybody could view not just players of a game. I created a website with photos spanning over 100 years of my town and surrounding areas matched with modern photos of what it looks like now. As a single location you could create a vlog with photos / videos of the area, maybe see if you could get stories from people that lived / worked there.
