Are Victorian Stinkpipes still eligible?

That’s usually what I would do too, but I had to get involved at least one time.

I generally don’t have an issue with debate from people who are not from the same place…. even if it’s to provide input to help improve a nomination.

Stink pipes: Rarity and historic.

Post Boxes: I believe that the UK are unique that the cypher of the reigning monarch is placed on the box when it is installed. With this you can see where long term residential areas are. New builds will never get the older monarchs. This is why the pre ERII boxes get a (quite difficult) pass.

Netherlands Bike Trails: I do not have the local knowledge to make the decision but I assume that local reviewers are Rejecting. I did post early on in your thread suggesting they could be the same as the UK Cycle Trails / Cycle Paths and you was quite sharp in informing me I was wrong so I stepped away.

When UK local reviewers reject pre ERII post boxes staff will often reject appeals so you have to get them on your side.

How many £5 notes do I need to sli… oh wait…erm…. scrap that…

I did have to step back from @cyndiepooh 's threads in regards Estate Signs.

In the UK we get Village Signs (built in to rock, Stone pillars etc) that are accepted.

There are similarities but from listening to locals it seems the differences are the rarity / regularity and the purpose that they where built.

If I moved to the US I would probably had Accepted them just because of those I have had accepted in the UK but things are seen differently in different countries.

No, please continue

I was channelling my inner Scooby Doo and i “would have got away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky kids”.

It was not meant to be “harsh”, we use pesky lightly in the UK.

That is actually the opposite. All bike trails here, France and Belgium (the numbered ones, so called basic infrastructure) are still being accepted to this day and many come ingame every day. Around 95% gets accepted

I do not have local or country specifics. Sorry for assuming that is harsh word. In the Netherlands if you call someone “pesky” or something, you mean it very badly.

I would definitely accept them as these were a key moment in this countries sewage improvements and there are not many that have survived (definitely outside of london), I’m pretty sure in my county there are only a few that are still there. They are also something cool to spot and tell someone about in a conversation as most people dont look up and think they’re just regular lampposts

Weirdly enough after reading this post I found a stinkpipe that I will be nominating in my area.

They are kind-of obsolete because with modern household plumbing systems, the sewer venting is actually handled in the household. But I do believe that in areas with older houses that some of these are still operational. For example, the one at the end of my road has a newer polycarbonate pipe on top of the old base and definitely emits unpleasant whiffs.

Because they are sort-of-Victorian (at least pre-World War II), you’ll find them in places with housing stock from that era or before. They are often on street corners or along the biggest road which will have the biggest sewer underneath.

There are also very new stinkpipes in places which exist to vent main sewers (the really BIG ones). They look quite similar, but they’re not placed in residential areas like the old ones because they perform a slightly different task.

The base will probably give you some clues as to age. Where I am, most of these old stink pipes were make by W. E. Farrer (the company is still around - Our History and 200 Year Legacy | MWH Treatment)

Yes, I’ve done too much reading on these.

Surprisingly, it got accepted.

I was watching how this one would go as I nominated a stink pipe in Cambridge during the +Delta event, but now I’m wondering if I forgot to submit it on Pokémon GO and I’m just waiting for it on Recon.

I never really know if these are eligible as there is no official stance from Niantic / Scopely that says these are recognised as historical items in British History.

This is a very niche type of object that exists only in the UK. I would be extremely surprised if Niantic ever took a position on this, because doing so would open them up to having to take a position on every other niche object across the world that only exists in one country.

They are definitely eligible, but won’t always get accepted. Eligibility and Acceptance are not the same thing.

I think they count under “exploration” criteria. I’d never noticed them before I started seeing them in Ingress, now it’s one of the things I look out for when portal / wayspot hunting.

I see these by chance, rather than going hunting for them.

I’ll let you know how it fares in Recon

Good luck. I assume Recon has a functional review platform coming soon™?

It’s got a sign in button now (that doesn’t work yet) and it’s been noted as coming this year, and there’s not a lot of this year left, so any day now?
