Building that spans two cells

Hello!

There is a local pizza restaurant that spans two cells. A unique sign (blue pizza icon) is located in a cell with an existing wayspot. However, the building extends to an empty cell (red pizza icon). The icons are just a custom Google Map I use to plan out wayspots.

Acceptance criteria aside, would putting the wayspot on the red pizza icon be considered abuse? The pizza restaurant is the only occupant of that building, and the wayspot would still be in the restaurant. The sign would make an excellent photo rather than a generic logo.

Afaik, as long the sign is in the correct location, its ok. The problem is if u are trying to shift it away accross the level 17 border in order for it to appear in pogo. U must understand that this is may be considered abuse. Wayfarer is being used not only for pokemon go but also ingress. Submitting the wayspot as is may not appear in pogo, but it may appear in ingress.in the other hand, unused wayspot in pogo might also become max point.

If you are submitting the restaurant, then either cell could be valid. You can make a good arguement for several valid locations at a restaurant for example main entrance, bar, main seating area, reception desk, notable feature inside etc.

If you’re wanting to use a specific sign that is in a slightly different place as your focus for the restaurant then its a risk that someone reviewing would see that the pin is a bit misplaced and “correct” it for you

My advice for this is to submit the restaurant and make your best argument that it meets the critieria, but take a picture of what youre actually submitting ie the frontage, or a good interior shot might work.

You can later add the image of the cool sign to the waypoint, or you might decide to submit it separately in the hope of creating a new waypoint which could be used in other games, and might make a power spot in Go. If its decided to be a duplicate then the image gets added to the restaurant anyway.

Dont submit things in the wrong place for cell reasons, but its okay to plan the best approach due to the cells as long as youre not misplacing anything. Thats my opinion anyway.

I think adding a better photo later is a good idea! They do have this logo which is located in the empty cell. I’ll start there and see how it goes.

Hello,
The place that you would expect the pin to located would be on the entrance to the pizza place.

That entrance is far removed from where you are suggesting and I would say that you risk it being considered as manipulation of the location and it being reported. If that doesn’t happen I would expect the location to be moved to the entrance on review. So my advice overall is not to try this.

The next building has a Thai restaurant. I haven’t looked into it by that is much more likely to be sucessful or there appears to be a yoga place in that cell. So there are 2 other much stronger options and I would advise researching and considering submitting them.

Ah I hadn’t seen that second sign.
That sign might be acceptable, but the risks I described above remain if it is interpreted as being done for manipulation reasons.

The Yoga place sounds like an incredibly easy acceptance. For some reason reviewers now seem pretty happy to accept exercise based locations, but restaurants and cafes can be a bit hit and miss at times

Based on that I’d say you could add all 3 at their entrances and potentially get 3 new acceptances. Not all would be featured in Go permanently but they might become power spots.

If its particularly the Pizza place that youd love to see in your favourite game then is there something valid inside thats in the cell youd like to locate it in? Maybe some artwork or a different area like a cafe and cake counter? Or try the sign you found and :crossed_fingers:

I havent looked up the restaurant so I’m just making general suggestions. Personally I tend to accept things that are “right enough” ie if the pin is on the building then Im happy with that.

Yes my personal preference would be the yoga place :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Wayfarer Team have been clear that if you appear to be placing a pin to manipulate how it might appear in a specific game it is considered as falling under the enforcement ladder policies.
There is a sign and nominating a sign is possible but it’s not a very special sign.
I know it’s tempting looking for new locations in empty cells, but you need to be clear about the risk of what you are doing being considered as malicious in terms of map integrity.
The other options don’t have a risk.

Understood. I will try Zeeks within the guidelines and try to get it in as a power spot

Is this actually a rule, or is it more of a custom for restaurants?

The ‘point of discovery’ for a venue could be any corner or face of the building that may be approached on foot. The locus of interaction could be an outdoor dining area, the counter where you place your order, or the indoor dining area.

I don’t recall anything in the criteria that prescribes or proscribes a Wayfarer’s choices. There it says only ‘entrance or visible sign or place-marker’ with the notion that the Wayspot invites interaction without interfering with activity at the venue.

The above comment makes it sound like every conceivable space might have a single point that is preordained as its prospective Wayspot, even though nothing has been submitted there yet.

I would much prefer to have it recognized that Explorers get to make their own choices bounded by reason.

Afaik, if the nomination is the actual building or stadium , any corner is ok. But if the nominee is the sign which is ald fixed to certain location, thats another matter.

It is worded more for outdoor nominations, but there is guidance that the entrance or a sign is the preferred placement for a pin: Niantic Wayfarer
