Hi guys! Hope you are all having a good day!
My recent submission for a swimming pool located at a University Student Residence (Residência Universitária Montes Claros) was rejected by Niantic’s automated filter.
For what I understood, pools could be POI if it was shared by the community, so I decided to make this a pokestop because the residence has 60+ students that live here, plus outside students come here study and relax, and there is even other activities without only being young students, but also more mature people. The pool is a relaxing spot during study time for everyone, so I thought why not make it a pokestop.
Title of sumbmission: Piscina da Residência Universitária Montes Claros
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
I have already submitted an appeal, but I still wanted to know what you guys think, and if there is anyone that could help me. Thank you for your time
Welcome to the forums
It is sometimes hard to work out why the automated (machine learning) system rejects a submission. It is definitely needed to remove a large amount of trash submissions, but this does mean it sometimes rejects things which should be allowed through to community review.
This is one of the places where appeals help, as you are aware.
If you want to post the full details, people would be willing to try and identify anything that might have been a problem. Just from that photo, I can’t see anything that the automated system should have disliked.
Thank you very much for the replay!!
For sure, let me give you the info. Even though its in English i will translate it.
I will translate both.
Title: Montes Claros Student Hall Swimming Pool
Description: A central hub for gathering and leisure for the residents of the Montes Claros university community. A prime location to relax and socialize between study hours, promoting well-being and a sense of community
Extra: This location is a common area of a university residence (it is not a private single-family home), fully meeting Niantic’s criteria for socialization and exercise spaces. It is a safely accessible location for pedestrians within the residential complex, as well as for external students who come here to complete their studies.
The extra photos are just different shots of the pool.
Thank you once again for your help!
I can’t see any reason this got rejected by the ML system. It uses a combination of the photo, text, location (and other things) to do the evaluation. The photo looks fine, the location is fine and there is nothing wrong with the text.
If the appeal is rejected (which it shouldn’t be based on what i can see), don’t use the same photo for resubmission. You can use a similar one (it’s a good photo!), but there is a risk that using the same photo will result in an auto-reject regardless of any other changes made.
Oh no I already appealed… such a dumb move by me. I guess I can’t do anything now right?
I would also have appealed
When it’s really hard to work out what can be changed to get an eligible submission in front of reviewers, a resubmission just runs the risk of being ML-rejected again. Repeatedly doing this would be a risk, as it could look like spamming or trying to illegitimately bypass the ML system.
Appealing is a good option here. I’m just adding what I would do next if the appeal is rejected.
(You get two appeals, each of which comes back after 15 days, so up to 4 appeals per month.)
Oh but I thought you could only appeal once per submission. If this gets once again rejected because the machine didn’t validate it, do you have any suggestions of what I could do next?
Like can I appeal once again after this appeal?
You can only appeal once per submission, but you can appeal up to 4 different rejected submissions per month.
If an appeal is rejected and you strongly believe that rejection to be incorrect, you can post the details into the Wayspot Appeals category.
Wait for the appeal result. If it fails, you could either post into Wayspot Appeals or resubmit with a slightly different photo. Alternatively, someone else might spot something I haven’t
Thank you very much for you help!
Hopefully the appeal will work!
Hope you have a great day!
Oh btw, I also forgot to ask a question, I used an upgrade after the 24hours of waiting to be able to use it, and it got rejected. Honestly it felt a bit unfair since I had to work for that upgrade and it gets right away rejected and now I don’t even know anything about how long appeal will take.
Is there anything I could do about that?
Sorry for asking another question…
Appeals are done by paid employees so are usually pretty fast. Generally just a few days. Regular nomination are reviewed by the volunteer community so can take much longer depending one how many volunteers vote in your area. Upgrades go out to the volunteers in your whole nation not just your regional area which is why they get voted on quicker.
Thank you for the answer!
I looked on google and it said it could take months for appeals to be seen, so I was feeling a bit devastated wasting an upgrade just like that.
However if you say so, knowing that I “wasted” but it will still be viewed ater a few days makes it a lot better! Thank you very much once again!
That is very outdated information from back when they first added the feature.
Since you were able to upgrade this wouldn’t have been rejected by the ML Disregard, apparently it malfunctioned
Thanks everyone for the help, the pokestop got accepted!!
Well… I decided to put the pokestop in the middle, Niantic or somebody decided to push it to the side and now it doesn’t show up in the game… Well that was a lot of time wasted I guess
Anything I can do or do I just declare it a loss?
Niantic felt that the edge of the swimming pool was a better location for the wayspot than the middle, which is valid. The location is now correct (and other locations would have been correct as well), so it will not be possible to get it moved.
It will almost certainly be used in the powerspot rotation pool, so is not a waste.
For future reference:
With sports facilities, it is better to put the wayspot on the edge of the field of play, not in the middle. You have a lot of choice to use around the edge and could have done so here, had you known.
If I had know before hand fr… thank you
The thing is that there is already one more powerstop already. So I ain’t gonna get anything from 2 powerstops.
Well in the end it’s my mistake…
Multiple powerspots can be useful. They don’t always have the same pokemon, if they do and it’s one you want you can battle multiple, just like having multiple gyms
