Closed church pokestop

There is a pokestop for a nearby church but the church has been closed for many years now and is just used for storage does this still make it an eligible stop as it’s not really a church anymore basically just a storage building despite having the looks of a church

You say it still looks like a church.
There are different perceptions around “church”
In the USA I see the emphasis on the church as a body of people, the congregation.
In the U.K. possibly because many of our churches are older we tend to think of the church as the building. So the building is the point of interest for its architecture and physical presence.

Here’s what it looks like there’s no signs or anything around it saying it’s a church so it could just be seen as a normal building despite the little cross on the top of it which doesn’t make it very distinctive.

Can you give the location of the Wayspot? If there is no longer a church operating there, it matters if the Wayspot is for the building, or for the congregation that worships there.

On balance I feel this is about a church as place. The local community will probably still refer to it as a church.
The latest streetview is a year ago. So even if no services have been taking place it looks well cared for and not abandoned.
I don’t know if I have the correct place that also refers to a community of nuns in the neighbouring presbytery.
I don’t feel any action is required at the moment.
But that’s just my personal view.

I wanted to see what you said before making any suggestions! I agree that this building is most likely a landmark for the community, and should probably remain a Wayspot.

What I have done in the past when I wasn’t sure what to do is use the form linked here under “Wayspot Removals” which can also be used for modifications.

Tell them what the situation is, give them the evidence that it is only being used for storage now, and let them decide if anything needs to be done as far as the Wayspot goes.

I think I’ll just do a report in game and see if they accept or reject it then leave it at that

Looks like someone reported the gym since it’s gone now but it wasn’t me, and now there’s no replacement gym since that was a gym and there are more than 6 stops in the cell

Staff could have decided to remove it based on this conversation :woman_shrugging: but the decision about what to do has been made so that’s done.

Yep no complaining from me lol just curious as to if niantic did it themselves or through someone’s report because it wasn’t from me
