We dont have alot in the Sonoran desert, but we do have alot of big plant pots with Native Desert plants. Would you think these would be good stops? If so how would you tag them?
Hello and welcome,
Unfortunately, potted plants that are used for landscaping and decoration do not meet criteria as great placed to be social, exercise, and/or explore. They are there to decorate the area, so they are seem as pretty indistinct, even if there aren’t many others in the area. Most likely there are other potted plants in the area, as they are pretty common in many places around the world. These are 3 different pots in 2 different areas, so right there that says they are pretty common.
Also, ML, the AI syst4em, tends to not like plants, so it may reject these for being natural features, which are also typically ineligible.
It’s recommended to review the Wayspot Criteria to better understand what may or may not be eligible. Another great place to look is the Criteria Clarification Collection, which discusses some of the most talked about POIs.
Yes displays of local flora could be a good nomination. I suggest you frame your nomination using this criteria:
I wouldn’t nominate them myself, because I can’t think of a reason they would be a great place to explore, socialize or exercise. While they’re pretty and decorative, they don’t seem like an actual point of interest, something a person would visit or care about in their own right.
Hey!
I don’t think the planters are going to be interesting enough sadly, although planters as part of a social space can work especially if they have seating as part of the design.
I see that this area is near to several restaurants, so I would focus on submitting those instead! I noticed “Two Brothers Kitchen” which looks like it might be a great place to socialise?
I’m not from the US so this might be inaccurate but is that also next to a post office? Post offices are considered a place to be social, not exactly in person, but the sending of letters and gifts is an important part of society and connects us, so these are considered eligible locations
Hmm, I didnt think about that, I will take all of the suggestions you all have provided.
Yeah this little area seems to have a few things to try
popular restaurants with seating areas are considered a great place to be social so can be submitted
Probably not the Taco Bell since those area big chain right? But if the Taco Bell has something there that stands out to you, like a play area or a mural etc then feel free to try that too ![]()
Ooh the Thai Cafe looks lovely. And it looks to be near to a church too
Being this is Arizona, cacti are pretty common here.
This is a shopping center, with many chain businesses, so not all of the places to eat may meet criteria. There are a good deal of generic businesses (I’m going to assume that tge McDonald’s has a sponsored stop/gym in PoGo):
Most grocery stores in the US have USPS/UPS/FedEx shipping available, but they are not post offices.
I do see some locally owned restaurants, but they already have Wayspots. There is also a Wayspot for shopping center sign, so that’s out.
I’ve tried looking for picnic areas, but not really finding any. This area may not have anything else that may be eligible (plus, it has a large parking lot), so you may have to move on to another area.
Edit: Had to restart my laptop, but as of May 23rd, 2025, these are the Wayspots in this area:
Thai cafe has a Wayspot on the Intel map. Most of the locally owned restaurants already have Wayspots.
Thanks for all the additional information! I will use the map and information you provided.
Aww thanks for looking all that up! When I read the original post I had thought there were no stops around ![]()
