Cricket Practise Nets - Appeal / Re-submit / Forget

Please provide:

Title: Wayspot Submission for WPCCC - Practice Nets

Description: All weather training nets for Whiston Parish Church Cricket Club.

Supplemental: Newly built training nets, no streetview and not yet showing on satellite. 2nd image shows the main grounds border fence and the public footpath between them which are visible on satellite.

Location: 53.404978, -1.320470

Reviewers provided these top reasons for not accepting this submission:

  • The submission is likely not permanent or distinct
  • The submission lacks uniqueness or historical and cultural meaning

The Cricket “Ground” itself is already a wayspots but as a separate training / practise area I thought this was a good shout.

Whats your thoughts on whether I should Appeal, Re-submit or Forget.

TIA

I think cricket nets are difficult as often there is little there to see, and in some places they are gone for most of the year. But the facility seems good. I suspect you stand a better chance appealing than the UK reviewers. I would emphasise using the nets as an activity in its own right. Same sport but different way of exercising and same social aspect.

Yes, they are definately permanant.

On some FB posts regards the building of them they are described as “All Weather Training Nets”, maybe I should add this in any appeal / re-submit?

Anything that says all weather in the UK gives a better initial impression. So yes the ability to practice some key cricket techiques out of season is good.

I like these and I like this concept coming to UK Wayfarer! The US often approves these in parks for baseball as places where people practice/train particular skills like throwing or hitting. That time is completely separate from the time you spend playing the game on the actual field.

Not a massive nominator so I have both appeals so used 1 on this. Included link that shows grant from Sport England and confirms them as “All Weather”. Fingers Crossed.

Excellent.

Now to find a way to get cricket pitches accepted. They are really hard

That’s odd - I’ve submitted around three and they’ve all gone through without problems.

I just checked - it’s actually six submissions explicitly of cricket pitches, all accepted.

All of them cricket strips in playing fields, as opposed to being at cricket clubs with an existing wayspot for the club itself.

I find them easy submissions because I don’t have to check if they are visible on streetview

The issue I find is that the cricket square normally just looks like a patch of grass and the boundary is a rope or if you are lucky a faded line.
If there is a clubhouse then your chances rise. Satelitte view often doesn’t help. But a cricket field with no club can be difficult to photograph, as it ends up just looking like a grass field.
Maybe I need a set of stumps :joy:

I haven’t come across a cricket pitch that doesn’t look different to the surroundings.

The one nominated was formed in the 1880s so is quite established  and already is a waypoint.

The practice nets are new only being completed in the last couple of months.

I’m obviously looking at the wrong sort of cricket pitches :joy:

They obviously play the wrong sort of cricket where you are
