Declined nomination

Please help me understand why this was rejected. I also don’t know what “duplicate” means, this is my first submission.

Hello and Welcome,

Could you post the GPS co-ordinates.

These will be shown in the 1st email you received when you nominated.

Welcome to the forum!

If I have found the correct location (please confirm) then it is an existing Wayspot

It is not showing as a Pokestop or gym because there is already a Pokestop/gym in that cell: Capital City Baptist Church

You can read more about that subject here: Why an accepted Wayspot may not be used in Pokemon Go (S2 cells and Pokemon Go)

Of course, (38.447213, -121.408273)

It’s not a stop though, tha Baptist church is regular gym. The Buddhist temple has a Max Gym. Is it not possible to have both where the temple is located? Any suggestions on how to get both?

Just an fyi for future nominations, the prompt when submitting in game is badly worried. I know it asks you why this would be a good Pokestop, but you should be explaining why this meets criteria as a Wayspot ( Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center ) and anything else reviewers would need to know to be able to accept the nomination.

My mistake. Meant to type Pokestop/gym and corrected it. There can only be one Pokestop/gym in each of those boxes I show.

My opinion is that when a sign is used as an anchor for a church the pin should be placed at the entrance to the church so you could try a location edit as shown below.

**Disclaimer: ** It is possible that the “Gym” status could be removed when you do a location edit, shouldn’t happen but if it does I don’t want to be shouted at

I changed to satellite view to answer the next question. If there are any features or amenities that exist in the areas that are not shaded in purple, those would be eligible to become Pokestops/gyms.

I want to be clear that I am saying that the object you submit must actually BE there, don’t just pin it there. People get in trouble for pinning in empty cells when the object isn’t really there.

If a new pokestop/gym appears too close to the current max spot, then the max spot will go away. There seems to be a distance requirement of 22m from any Pokestop/gym for a Wayspot to be used as a Power Spot.

I do not recommend moving anything that is correctly located already for game purposes.

You may have seen situations where the subject of a Power Spot could be submitted as a new Wayspot. This can happen if the Power Spot was imported. Those do not show up as duplicates on the map when reviewing. This Wayspot was not an import.

Thanks for all the info. I understand the restriction on multiple way stops in the same grid square. But how do you explain parks where the gyms and stops are sometimes less than 200m apart?

I agree, but as stated IMO the correct location is the entrance to the church.

The sign is being used as an anchor as even the title states the waypoint is the church.

Again, just my opinion the waypoint is currently incorrect so moving it to the church would be a correction.

Maybe using the Help Chat would be the safest way, let them decide…

Distance is not a factor. If 2 waypoints are over the cell lines they can be stops / gyms…

I found some of these imported ones nearby and think this is an excellent example

24 hour Fitness here is an imported Wayspot. If you submit this, it will not be marked as a duplicate. Exercise businesses meet the criteria for at exercise, and often for social, too. They are often incorrectly rejected as “Generic business” in voting, but are almost always accepted on appeal. I would submit this.

(It looks like there could be quite a few things eligible in this area.)

Oh now I see why you were thinking you could have both a max spot and a gym at the temple, because you do at the church. I didn’t notice the imported wayspot at the church until I zoomed differently.

I believe the correct pin for the wayspot featuring a photo of the church sign is at the sign, as it is. Attempting to move this to the church would make the Power Spot at the church go away if accepted.
I wanted to show you the empty cells at the church as well so you can see if they have other amenities. Often churches here will have playgrounds or other spots for people to gather that would make great Wayspots.

I know we have given you a ton of information to digest just now. Please review it, and come back with more questions. Happy submitting!

Looks like you’re advising wayfarer abuse by saying this person should edit the PoI to change a location that is already correct purely for cell reasons.

Bad advice.

Gyms are upgraded stops. They still count for cell rules.

I had originally mistakenly called this a Pokestop. To me the words “Pokestop” and “gym” are interchangeable for this reason you have pointed out, but that was a mistake on my part for using the wrong word.

The “Sign” or “Actual POI” has been discussed and it seems to be one of the big Wayfarer Grey Areas.

Personally, I don’t see the sign as eligible in itself, it is being used as an anchor for the church. It’s the church that is eligible so IMO (and others) the church entrance is the correct location.

I understand that this is a matter of opinion which is why I added that requesting the edit through Help Chat would be the safer route.

I have never requested such an edit but have where the pin was on the roadside. I could have done an in game edit to the sign (that was pictured) but instead used the Help Chat for a >10m edit to the church entrance (as per the title) which was excepted.

So I am not suggesting anything that I wouldn’t do myself (where appropriate) and unless informed by staff this is “abuse” then I still see it as a “correction”.

Note to OP: I made the suggestion in good faith but can not be held responsible for any eventual outcome.
