Denied submissions that fit available tags

rather new at submitting and am reading more posts as i have time.

but a question…if a submission fits one of the registerable tags that you can add to your wayspot how could it be automatically denied?

i chose a permanently installed “wastebin” along a hiking trail that i walk frequently. it has a QR code and a tagline saying Don’t Be Trashy and encourages us to leave no trace and clean up our trails as we walk if we find other trash.

i tag it as wastebin show the spot in the forest where it is at, show how permanent it is since it is mounted on two posts sunk into the ground and made sure to comment about leaving to trace as we hike.

says it was declined by Niantics automated process for criteria, and it was a super fast deny too.

did that even make it to human eyes to judge? or were the judges just not paying attention to the face that it did fit a guideline?

am i penalized if i resubmit it again ever? i don’t want a negative score or anything attached to my submissions?!?!

Hello and Welcome,

Please ignore the tags, they are not a list of eligible criteria (they include Schools which is a BIG no).

They are a list from a 3rd party that was just to build up data that could be sold at a later date.

Welcome to the forum!

I am so glad you asked about those categories. They confuse so many people. It is just data. If you search through the categories, you will find things that are specifically not eligible for Wayspot, like “elementary school” and others. I don’t know where this list came from.

In regards to the bin, this would normally not fit Criteria and is why the AI rejected it.

Have you tried the QR code?

If this just goes to a page repeating to dispose of your litter correctly then I think you would struggle.

If it goes to a page in regards to the specific Trail you may have a chance.

If you screen grab your nomination and post here we have some “Trail Experts” that will be able to advise better than me.

Good luck.

thanks i will check that part out

okay, i was really confused by that. you’d think they’d edit or remove that purposeless stuff then eh?

The preferred method would be to remove the tags altogether.

You will not be alone, if that helps.

People seeing the list of categories and thinking that that represents eligible categories is a perfectly reasonable thought. Unfortunately, it’s an invalid one. The presentation of this data is a system category error, because it causes people to make invalid choices.

(Systems should generally be designed to work with how people use them, instead of forcing people to work a particular way. This isn’t always possible, but this concept does mean system designers should look at things like the category list and realise they are very unhelpful.)

I know the Lightship database had been available for other developers to use. I think the tags were to supplement this effort. I don’t think the categories are needed now that Wayfarer is not part of Niantic Spatial and would love to see this section removed, too.

I think its a trap. When people tag them as school or other ineligible stuff, its like admitting its ineligible. AI might be able to pick up rejection faster.

You can see how games like Pikmin Bloom could use the tags to generate seedlings of the right type, although some of that data may be from a third party database.

I have seen reviews where the waypoint is eligible but they have added an ineligible tag to it..

Also seen where people have placed it incorrectly so instant thought “trying to fit in to different cell” but you then notice they have moved from empty cell to an occupied cell

Don’t give it, you will get your new pokestop… Think positive

We’d be very happy to help you nominate other stuff along that trail  I’m sure it has unsubmitted trail markers.

I can think of at least one situation where something could be labeled school and be eligible.

My home town has a historic all black school that is no longer in use and, if I remember correctly, not owned by the school district.

I wouldn’t be tagging that as a school, but as a historic building. It is not a school, it was a school.
