Difference of S2 area in Japan and others countries

Hello,

It seems S2 area in Japan are smaller than others countries. Do you know why ?

The number of Pokestops/Gyms in Japan are amazing : I often saw a gym with 1 or 2 stops right below. Sometimes, it’s even difficult to touch them correctly ^^;

Its because you are trying to change a curved 3D surface into a flat map.

Hello and Welcome back.

Occasionally there are reasons that wayspots break the “1 per cell” rule but the usual answer to “extremely close” stops are when they fall at either side of the cell line. 2 stops could be inches apart as long as they fall in to separate cells. You even get cases where 4 are close to the corners…

Japan is filled to the brim with sponsored Pokestops and gyms that ignore the regular cell rules.

Ho yeah, true ; I saw a lot of SoftBank and FamiliyMart. I was not sure the sponsored one ignore cell rules. Thanks for the confirmation ^^

To a point. If an S14 area doesn’t already have the maximum number (three) of community submitted gyms, a sponsored gym pushing the total to three will block further gyms.

There’s a grid near me where this happened. It had 2 community gyms and one sponsored. Players had added more stops trying to get a third community gym and it wasn’t working. When the sponsored was deleted (all stops and gyms from that sponsor were deleted in the US), another community gym spawned immediately.
