Duplicate wayspot removal rejected - information post fairy at Trentham Gardens

Wayspot: information post fairy at Trentham Gardens
Location: 52.964870,-2.200177

Removal Text: Duplicate of “RIO - The Acrobatic Fairy” (52.964885,-2.200190). There is also a submission in voting to get this a third wayspot called “Handstand fairy”

Can anyone explain why a wayspot for the fairy on top of the signpost is not a duplicate of the wayspot for the information post and fairy?

The wayspot I picked for rejection has a person in it and no other photos, so quite how it got accepted is odd.

Removal rejection (2026-05-11):

I rejected the third wayspot and hope it doesn’t get accepted overall.

It has become muddled.
It’s a classic case of people not seeing it in game and submitting.
It could be that when Emily was accepting that the auto system accpeted instead of duplicate. :woman_shrugging: and the photo with a person needs to go.
But otherwise you would expect it to be duplicated.

Oh, that’s what it keeps getting subbed, I was forgetting people don’t look at the map. We can’t tell which one came first, but I doubt Emily could have accepted the one with the person in it.

Is there anything you can think of to explain why Niantic decided to reject the duplicate wayspot report?

Was it via the map?
I have reported dupes via the map that have been rejected and I think it was because they were not close enough matches in terms of text and or photo. And we are all human.
Try again maybe help chat???

It was via the map. I included the coordinates and name of the wayspot this was duplicate to, to make it extremely obvious, as all it would take is looking at the pictures of two wayspots. I’m not sure how much effort I should be going to to report a duplicate that doesn’t even get used.

We can leave it in this section as an appeal of a rejection.

Thanks for the appeal, @salixsorbus! We gave this a second look and decided to retire the Wayspot in question.
