Erroneous appeal decision for a trail marker

  • Title: Stone Mountain Bike Trail: Mile 0.69
  • Description: The 0.69 mile marker of the Stone Mountain Trail.
  • Supplemental: Hiking trails are amazing for exercise and exploration!
  • Location: 194 Baker-Highland Connector, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA

I recently nominated a couple of mile marker signs on a major walking/biking trail in the local area while I was passing through, since I realized they were in open L17 cells, and trail markers are some of the most straightforward nominations you can make. One of them was accepted, but this one was rejected for some reason, both by reviewers and by the appeals team. I was under the impression that trail markers like this were eligible by way of them promoting exercise and exploration, being part of an official hiking trail. Can this get another look?

Thank you!

This could be because you photos are looking more at the graffiti.

Getting close in to the “trail Marker” for the main photo might improve your chances.

Good Luck.

In the future, I would do a closer crop for the main photo so the trail marker is the main focus, that would usually do better with the ML too.

Without having been told this is a mile marker, I can’t see one - all I see is a graffiti’d pole. Even after seeing the title, I still couldn’t see the mile marker.

Your photo needs to be a closer cropped shot of the actual trail marker rather than include the graffitied signboard that rests on top of it. This would alleviate the confusion between trail marker versus graffitied signboard.

It’s strange because 9 times out of 10 this hasn’t been an issue for me. I take photos of these trail marker posts in such a way that the text indicating it’s a trail marker is clearly legible upon photo inspection while also trying to give the subject room to breathe in the context of the photodisc it would be a part of.

It’s the same philosophy I always stick to when I’m taking photodisc photos. Here’s some examples of the other signs I’ve taken photos of that were accepted previously:

Thank you to the Niantic/Scopely team for the subsequent review by the way.

The one in your OP just distracts probably due to the graffiti and the angle of the Trail Marker.

The others show the Trail Marker clearer.

IMO, the 3 Accepted would make excellent “Supplemental Photos” but would still suggest showing the Trail Marker on its own as the main.

I agree. I think you are being lucky.
Why not make it easy for the reviewer to instantly see the specific trail sign, and that will also be clear on the photo disc if it’s in the centre.

Do have a think about it, but in case someone else comes this topic these would in my view be good supporting photos but ones where the trail marker dominates would be better main photos,
