Finding local communities that need submission help?

Hey everyone! Kind of a random question…

I’m in CT & lately I’ve been spending my weekends checking out nearby towns that are a little light & helping with submissions.

My area is blessed already, so I started branching out & I’ve actually been having a lot of fun with it!

I’m trying to stay within about an hour or so from home, but I’m starting to run out of places I know.

How does everyone find areas that really could use some love & help?

I figured I’d ask before I go back to blindly zooming in on the map like a maniac :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Appreciate it!!

Not from that area but have you checked out if there are Campfire groups around?

Great suggestion! Sadly, Campfire only shows me the closest 2 towns to me plus the global community which unfortunately isn’t helpful. (They also have a great infrastructure already)

I’ve chatted with people on big event days like community day or go fest and see where they traveled from. Often players with little around will come to a big town for an event. It’ll give you an idea of where players need help most.

That’s a great initiative and one of the best things about Wayfarer :dizzy:

Blindly zooming in is a very valid strategy tbh! “If you build it they will come” - maybe you’re helping someone level up who isn’t yet manifesting themselves in in-person or online communities.

Outside of what’s been mentioned, if I have no information otherwise, I would tend to go by population density or counts since I assume it to be somewhat proportional to user count.

So true! Appreciate it very much.

Awesome suggestion! Why I didn’t think to ask people when they come to meetups, has me scratching my head lol. Appreciate it! We have the best community ambassadors, I should also check with them.

There are all kinds of strategies you can employ. In the US, I often start with neighboring counties or cities. I go to their parks and recs website to get a list of all the public parks and amenities. Then I look for those places on the Wayfarer Map.

Sometimes there might be a handful of wayspots but I see that a lot more can be added. So I start planning that out. Then I look for any information about trails, art installations, etc in the same area. Maybe there have been new trails, new sculptures, or new murals put up. Find the address/GPS location for those and look on the Wayfarer map. Hopefully you will find a whole mess of things you can add.

While you’re at it, check out their downtown area. Look for cool coffee shops or other local businesses that people who don’t specialize in Wayfarer don’t know how to nominate. Don’t forget art that might be sitting outside these local hotspots. Use Google Streetview (if it’s up-to-date) to find things. I also like to click on the Google listing for local businesses to see what photos people have posted that show the inside. I can’t use their photos, but I might see something eligible that I will go take my own photo of to nominate inside the business.

I found these singing cowboys outside a cool sandwich shop/small grocery store in a small town in my state.

I found this cool mural on the side of a building in the downtown area of that same small town

That’s a phenomenal system, thank you so much for sharing it! Those statues are such a great find too.
