First pokestop nomination rejected for unclear reason

Hi,

I tried creating my first pokestop nomination last weekend. It was the beginning of a trail in the Ojito Wilderness in New Mexico. The trail goes for two (easy) miles and ends at a petroglyph site which has a pokestop. Being a wilderness area there are not very many Pokestops; I thought it would be good to have a pokestop at the beginning of this trail (where the parking lot is), and a route from the beginning of the trail to the end.

I don’t know why it was rejected, though. It satisfies the criteria of a great place for exercise and exploration, though the being social criteria is less applicable here. The site is easily accessible le via a regularly graded dirt road. I’ll add a link to the submission here. Why was this rejected?

Welcome to the forum!

That “automated process” rejection means that the machine learning model that scans nominations around 20-24 hours after being submitted did not see how this could be eligible. It has trouble with natural features as eligible Wayspots. While your main photo is stunning, I don’t see a trailhead in this photo as a human, either. If there is any kind of sign about the trail that you can submit as the main photo, that would be a more clearly defined anchor for the Wayspot, and something that the Machine Learning process is more likely to determine to potentially be eligible.

Alternatively, you can appeal this decision. We get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before we can use them again. I usually try a new submission before I try an appeal. We have also seen posts on the forum where the appeal reviewer has rejected a natural feature, which is what your photo focuses on.

If your nomination is accepted with a more mundane photo and makes it in to Pokemon Go, you have the ability to add another photo later.

Hello @Kersten2827
What a location this is ..wow.
If you are submitting the beginning of a trail you need to feature in your photo a trail or path. Ideally there would be a sign even a simple one indicating where that is once you park your car.

I see you used websubmit for this could we see the other photos please. Had you included any screenshots of web information that shows the trail?

fyi, we can’t see your contribution from that link. It takes us to our own contributions page.

Thank you for the kind words about my photo. It was actually about 4:00 am, but the moon was bright enough to light up the sensors. I thought it was better than the gate picture, which is why I used it. Below are some of the other pictures I submitted. Is the trail gate photo more what they are looking for? Is there a was to edit the submission to change that photo?

You cannot edit the photo at this stage. If it is difficult to get back here to make a new submission, then you could try an appeal. I cannot promise how it will go.

If you can make a new submission, I think the first photo could work. Or I am fairly confident that the Machine Learning model would understand this to be eligible if you focus squarely on this trail marker:

Thank you. I tried resubmitting it by finding the spot on the satellite map, but it didn’t care for the fact that I was more than 10km away. It’s not hard to get to; we’ll have to go out another weekend to resubmit it, and then follow up with the route at a later date.

Thank you for your comments. I posted the other photos that I had submitted, plus one or two more just because.

I agree with Cyndie, very boring by comparison but the close up of the trail marker is what is needed, since the wayspot will be located at that point marking the start of the trail.
If there are any resting points - benches or marker posts along the trail they can be submitted.
The benches could act as anchor points for a view.
You are welcome to ask for further advice
Otherwise
Good luck
