Happy Cake Day to the Forum 🎉

This forum opened its doors on the 8th of April 2024 (UTC) so it was 9th in some parts of the world ( Time does odd things on a global forum :joy:)

It now has nearly 125K registered users, and more simply may read on the web.

And you have all been busy with over 13K topics and well over 120k posts….
We don’t half talk a lot…..but then that is the whole point.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

A supportive community helping each other whatever the time is.

Anniversaries are marked with cake by peoples names…..so especially today those who have managed to last those 2 years shall have cake :face_savoring_food:. It’s nice that the cake marks a year on the forum, so there is a constant trail of cake throughout the year, and that is no bad thing:joy:

So I thought we could use this topic to mark this anniversary - it’s a good excuse for some celebration and more cake.

What were you submitting approx 2 years ago ( I won’t hold you to the exact date :joy:)

For those that joined later, how about something from around the time you joined?

Or if you don’t feel like posting a submission…how about the most useful thing you have learnt from reading on the forum - and I am going to ban any mention of British Postboxes :joy: ( I’m half joking)

Here is mine to start with

Thank goodness for appeals

And I have learnt from this community that every nomination can fail, but there is no point getting cross or blaming everyone, just take a deep breath, tackle the issues and plod on.

Happy 2nd Anniversary Wayfarer Forum and its Community

2 years ago we were generally battling to have trail markers accepted, and there was a lot of strange focus on the material used for the markers. Stickers. :sob:

This was a nice victory during the days where these were rarely accepted :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: we have come a long way

The parks in Ealing were always spectacular! I spent a lot of time in Ealing 30 odd years ago as we had family there, and they lived right by Lammas Park, but I remember you could just keep walking and reach other parks too!

Lammas Park is, or at least was, very popular with Community Days. The parks in my area are lacking any real appeal…. which is a shame.

Just after this new forum started, I was submitting lots of trail markers

This was one of the rare submissions that was something else:

The Town of Cary opened a couple of new “Neighborhood Parks” that year, so I did a lot of submitting in those. This is a favorite.

And the North Carolina Museum of Art put in a new “Eco Trail” path in the outdoor park.

I guess that was back when the automated process could accept.

I haven’t started submitting yet, I’m still focusing on reviewing. I think the biggest effect this forum has had on me is to encourage me to go ahead and reject nominations instead of skipping. My agreement ratio continues to go steadily up (my rating hit great early on and has stayed there), so that was a change I needed to make!

Well, I can’t really compete with the stuff here, since I first started submitting on January 1st 2025 as new Year resolution to make my area better. Worked out quite well:sweat_smile:.

This was my first accepted spot ever. Still proud of it to this day, even if I can visit it rarely unfortunately.

The forum is much older than my entire Wayfarer career so I will share the submission that brought me to the forum. I was lucky enough to find my way to the forum very early into my journey after submitting a nomination with a (copyright free but still) third party photo. The lovely community here helped me workshop every single aspect of my submission until it was perfect and got accepted :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: So thankful for this community

I think workshopping this submission helped me internalize the criteria and made me a better submitter and reviewer

Happy Cake Day!

Sincerely, one of many users who decided to quit Wayfarer entirely (I guess)

Here’s my best one from April of that year. One that likely caused some discussion with reviewers as it’s in a hospital, and also says “butt” (teehee)
