Today, the nomination of this historic bakery in my town was denied because, according to the voters, it is neither permanent nor of historical significance. In my nomination, I included a report from the local newspaper highlighting the work of three generations of the owning family in continuing to provide good service and good bread to the town.
Title: Forn de pa Oliveras
Description: Historica panaderia del pueblo, que lleva desde 1958 dando servicio al pueblo (“Historic village bakery, serving the town since 1958”)
Location: Carrer Santiago Rusiñol, 10, 08110 Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona
This bakery is a local landmark due to its long history. Attached is a report from the local newspaper to demonstrate its importance.”)
I don’t think 1958 is necessarily that historic, although the 3 generations running it is a lovely story. It’s good that you included the newspaper story
Since a bakery isnt a place to socialise (unless you can eat there? Are there tables inside?) or exercise, you’d be looking to submit this as a place to explore, so I would focus on how this bakery could stand out from other bakeries - do they have a specialist product or a particular way of baking that is something unique?
Your appeals are on a timer for every 15 days, so you can appeal later if you wish.
Just want to let you know you get 2 appeals every 15 days. If you have used up both of your appeals within the last 15 days, you do have to wait 15 days from the time you used your 1st appeal before you get one back.
The historic/cultural rejection reason is usually for when someone rejects for generic business. Many have gotten this rejection reason for local businesses, as have I, and with the expanded rejection reason browser plug-in, it notes that it was rejected for generic business.
I do have to question how this bakery meets criteria as a great place to be social/exercise/explore, which all nominations have to meet at least 1 of. Bakeries may be seen as generic businesses, so I would want to know what kind of baked goods are they known for, like are they known for a special type of baked good/pastry that others don’t make., which could help it meet the explore criteria I’d like to know if there is maybe a seating area for dining, as this would encourage socialization with others. Looking at the bakery on Google Maps and Street View, I’m not seeing that they have a seating area inside or out, so being a social place may be out of the running.
One thing that may help to add in the supporting info is their IG page, https://www.instagram.com/forn_oliveras_1958/. Another think to look at is reviews from places like Google Maps, Yelp, etc, as reviews can help.
With that said, all that I have found about this bakery is that it’s just a bakery, with no seating area, and so it may be seen as a generic business. More info on generic businesses can be found here:
I’d also encourage you to check out the Wayspot Criteria, to know what may or may not be eligible. Another good place to check out is the Criteria Clarification Collection, as it covers some of the most discussed POIs.
Just to help you out, reviewers shouldn’t have to read the article. You need to list the reasons why this is a good place to explore beyond it being old. The link is there to back up what you’ve written. But you as the submitter must do the research and explanation. Don’t expect every reviewer to read the extra information.
Also echoing what SeaPrincess has said, you note it’s a point of interest and historic but then your description is a single line of text saying when it was established?
Needs a lot more than that to “sell” it as a point it interest.
