That was my point about the skipping. Language skips don’t require more than a couple seconds to decide - I can’t read the text, can’t tell from the picture, scroll to skip. It’s not something to sit and think about. And I get enough of them that it could seriously impact my overall speed.
And to reiterate, it’s not a matter of “I don’t want to make a decision on this one”, it’s “I can’t properly understand this one.”
If they are penalizing that, and I think they are, they need to either stop penalizing it, or build in translation features.
Have you got your bonus and home location area set somewhere that its unlikely to get submissions other than English. That should help up the percentage of English ones
Oddly enough I was going to suggest something similar: for many people, extra time is involved for other-language submissions, and they use that time to paste into a translation window or do some kind of external research. Reviewing in a language you don’t know well isn’t mandatory, but you may be hitting the Skip button much too quickly and that’s triggering the cooldowns because it might look to the system like an automated action. Computers can be a bit intolerant! Maybe you could try, just as a test case, doing something like this:
Reviewing as normal for nominations in your native language.
Hit a different-language nomination? Go get some water, a snack, respond to pending text messages, take a very brief walk, count to 100 - anything taking a few minutes to do.
After a few minutes has elapsed, return to your reviewing, hit the Skip button, and start the process anew.
I think if you take a bit more time to hit the “skip” button, at least as long a time a you take to complete a full review, you can prove or disprove the impact that Skips have on your cooldown frequency.
I guess… but that just proves the hypothesis if it works!
edit: found out “home” location is not editable, and while “bonus” is, it says I won’t be able to change it again until July, and since I have no idea how far I need to move it….
I just skip because I do not believe I should be required to use third party software, and no translation ability is provided by Wayfarer.
I guess I’m going to have to reset my locations or stop reviewing or whatever just because they can’t wrap their head around the fact that there are multiple languages.
As for “take a break, walk, snack, etc”…. basically I would only be able to do about four reviews at a time.
We have told you repeatedly that no third party software is needed. All modern browsers have translation tools bullt-in. It is not the Wayfarer developers’ fault that you can’t figure out how to make that work on your set up. We have tried to help you find it, but you seem unwilling to help yourself. We can only do so much.
No, I guess it’s not their fault that everyone who has “tried to help” has given “directions” that either do not apply to my system, or when they do, direct me to buttons I have been unable to find. “Able” and “willing” are not the same thing.
Have you made any attempt to find the answer for yourself? We are not your personal IT service. We like helping people, but we can’t offer concierge service for each case. We are just other players who arent getting paid for this.
You yourself offered multiple sets of directions last week, including referring me to an ‘Aa’ button that doesn’t appear in my browser. Now you’re ‘not IT support’. Pick one.
People will make suggestions to try and help but if it isn’t suitable for your scenario you can not expect anybody to visit you and give 1 to 1 education.
My suggestion would be to google the type of browser you are using and Translate options such as …
However the referenced button is not visible to me.
I said that and was blown off with a “you’re just not trying” attitude, when this should never have been a problem in the first place. This forum has a built in translate function but Wayfarer itself doesn’t….make it make sense.
The algorithm for the cooldown appears to be tailored to expect reviewers to try to evaluate every nomination in their review queue. It is probably designed that way to prevent review circles from skipping through to find the nominations they want to judge, but I do not know that for a fact. You have been given a few options for avoiding a cooldown while not doing anything that you want to do. Getting the cooldown algorithm changed is the least likely of these to happen.
I hate trying to review on a phone anyway, so no judgement for not wanting to try to stop and translate when you hit those reviews, and certainly not for not wanting third party tools. Just trying to lessen the frustration of cooldowns. I love @Shilfiell 's suggestion, or you could set a timer - I have seen it suggested that 20 seconds might be long enough. Or play with your buddy, or do a gbl battle. Really, anything quick that you can do before hitting “Skip.”
