Hey everyone, looking for some advice on a frustrating Gym situation!
There’s a Gym in my area that’s inside a private college campus — so it’s basically off-limits to the general public. On top of that, the POI information is wrong; there’s no temple or landmark there, it’s just college property.
The tricky part is that since it’s a private college, there’s no clear owner or specific person I can contact to get this sorted. I tried reaching out through their general email multiple times, but never got a response. And honestly, even if I did get a reply, Pokémon GO isn’t very popular in my area — so it’s unlikely whoever responds would even understand what I’m asking or why it matters.
I’ve already reported it to Niantic and submitted a removal request, but no luck so far either.
Since the Gym is on restricted private property and most players can’t actually access it, it really shouldn’t be there according to Niantic’s own guidelines.
Has anyone been through something like this, especially with a private college or university where local awareness of the game is low? Would love to know how you handled it!
As a general principle, wayspots do not have to be accessible to everyone. They merely have to be safely accessible to the people who are allowed to be there.
Wayspots on private college campuses are perfectly OK.
Someone wanted a game location there, and it isn’t fair to try to take it away from them because you can’t access it.
Did you have evidence of this? Or did you just say that you don’t think it is there? We could suggest follow up steps if you have evidence.
Do you need help with suggestions for other Wayspots to submit in your local area? If you give a general location, a lot of people here are good at making suggestions from looking at Maps.
I’m slightly concerned that it is a gym you are trying to remove, not just a pokestop. Sometimes people try and get gym wayspots removed simply because they want the gym to be somewhere else.
The best thing to do is find other things to add as wayspots so that you get more pokestops and gyms in other places.
I have proof using google maps regarding this since it does not show any temple over there with no photo on the gym disc either. The area is clearly marked incorrectly.
If you have evidence that the point of interest for the wayspot does not exist, then you can try a couple of things. You can use a different reporting method than you used before. I find the forms linked at the top of the forum here to be very effective. If the new report with the evidence presented is also rejected, then you can appeal the rejection in Wayspot Appeals and make a further case.
Hello,
Can I ask which part of the world you are located in as you say there is no photo disc and it is a temple. There have been imported wayspots in some places. Can you share the clocation please so we can look at it.
Please note that to request the removal of a wayspot that it doesn’t exist, you need to provide evidence that it does not exist. This could be current photos, a video, links to a website showing what is there now (for example, when an area has been redeveloped) etc.
if they are detailed enough, then maybe. Unfortunately, it is not possible to tell how old the google aerial images are, as they don’t provide a date, so they could theoretically be several years old and of limited use.
