It doesnât look like a copy because when you log in to review submissions you get an error page. Niantic websites and apps /never/ suffered from errors.
I think even if the Recon team has a copy of the Wayfarer source code, manages to build it, vibe-code out the âWayfarerâ references and replace them with âRecon,â and easily remove the âWhat is it?â UI pieces â theyâll still need time to deal with bigger problems:
- Fix the broken

rejection flow for âexercise, explore, socializeâ â since, as Brian mentioned, Ingress doesnât need more low-quality Wayspots; - Tweak reviewer weights to work in a world with fewer reviewers;
- Train a new Emily))
I find it surprising that the Recon team are reviewing title edits. Iâm not submitting many, since they have other things to do with their time, but just had one accepted for a portal previously called â18th Century Sheffield Stone Mile Markerâ and now called âSheffield Road Stoop Stone - Bradfield and Hathersageâ. I couldnât help myself - the inaccuracy annoyed me. If anyone doesnât know what the difference is between a milestone and a stoop stone and is curious, search for âderbyshire stoop stonesâ
Iâm confused as to why you find it surprising? If theyâre testing a new ML model, as many suspect, text is the easiest thing for it to review, or for someone to manually review and feed it to the model to say it is correct.
Maybe we will have a new Portal nomination reviewed at some point soonâ˘ď¸?
OK, that makes sense. I hadnât thought of that - just didnât like the idea of giving them extra work to do instead of creating the recon facility!
Poking through the Recon help pages and:
Recon Challenge: Automatically show reviews from around the world when there is an active Recon challenge.
I wonder if there will be Recon Challenge before we have the next Wayfarer one.
Oh, I only have 1 tick on my OPR medal and would love another!
In other news for me, I keep being surprised by the title/description edits that are being rejected. Some are correcting spelling/grammar, others giving accurate names/details, yet theyâre getting rejected.
Also, has anyone else not been able to report invalid portals for a couple of weeks? Even when at the invalid portal, I canât report, and I have reported this.
Yes itâs broken but theyâre aware.
Yeah it seems quite random, Iâm getting good edits rejected and some accepted..
Others have shared that Location edits are now being reviewed for Recon so thatâs:
- Title edits

- Description edits

- Location edits

- New photos

- New
PortalNiantic Spatial Wayspot Nomination
Maybe Soonâ˘ď¸
Yep, Iâve had 1 location edit approved (then again, havenât submitted many).
New photos youâd think would be easy, but who knows why they havenât started them yet.
If theyâre using a ML system, maybe it hasnât been trained on photos. Or theyâve seen some of the photos Wayfarerâs ML has approved and decided to leave it to people.
Title edits feel random, Iâve submitted some which obviously fix errors in the titles to have them rejected. Not sure thereâs much ML going on.
When Recon finally comes out, do we think this thread needs to remain? Just thinking thatâs meant to be before the end of the year and there isnât much of it left
Just wanted to get other views on it, but maybe it eventually gets less activity when all the Ingress Agents move to the new Recon Community Forums?
After all, Ingress isnât connected to Wayfarer so it would be odd to have the thread still up.
Outside of that, any bets as to when we get Recon?
Not before the end of the year.
Well, we might not have any choice but to move on once Recon is up and running. Staff could shut down this thread and no longer allow any posts about Ingress/Recon in the future; hard to say, really.
As for when Recon may be fully up and running, hard to say there as well. Decisions on my title/description edits are taking longer than before. My last decision was for a location edit. And removal requests are open again. I can be patient, but I known not all of us are.
My â50p betâ is that it drops as Year 13 ends.
Have your badge and Recon too!
As we donât tend to close topics unless necessary I donât see the need to close.
I would expect it will to come to a natural end, especially if support is up and running on Ingress.
It will then slowly sink down the topics.
