Little Free Libraries removed

Hello Niantic Team,

I am appealing the simultaneous removal of two valid Wayspots in the village of Oud-Vossemeer. Both are “Little Free Libraries” (Boeken Delen) that were previously accepted after community review.

  1. Eligibility & Importance:

These locations are quintessential examples of Wayspots that encourage Exploration and Social Interaction. They serve as permanent neighborhood hubs where residents exchange literature and engage with one another.

  1. Addressing Potential Removal Reasons (Private Residential Property):

I suspect these may have been removed during a local sweep. However, I would like to clarify the following:

• Public Access: Both libraries are placed facing the public sidewalk and are intended for public use.

• Pedestrian Safety: Both are located in low-speed, pedestrian-friendly village zones with clear access from the pavement. They do not require visitors to enter private gated land or gardens.

• Community Assets: These are not mere “home decorations”; they are registered community exchange boxes maintained for the public good.

The locations:

Location 1: Boeken Delen

• Coordinates: 51.5725347, 4.2027717

• Accepted Date: 2026-04-10

Location 2: Dorpsweg

• Coordinates: This one was not submitted by me but the coordinates are roughly here - (51.5731397, 4.1970181)
This one has been a wayspot for years now.

Since they were both removed at the same time, I assume there’s a new reason for that, but I’m not sure. It would be great if both of them could be added back!

I am not staff, but just facing the sidewalk is not enough. They cannot be on the SFPRP as explained here:

The one you show looks like it is on a boundary fence. You will need to provide evidence that it is not.

I understand what you mean, but I don’t think that’s a problem here.

The other one was placed on the sidewalk, not on private property at all, so that couldnt have been the reason either

I am sorry. But yhe foto seems its attached to property boundaries

This includes the outer facing facade, fence of these locations, and property boundaries.

The 1st one definitely fails the SFPRP rule, I don’t see the 2nd one on google maps but with area I would it fails the same.

The argument normally stated is that the home owner may be happy for you to go and grab a book but it could be very different if a crowd turns up to do a raid.

It is literally the problem, as clearly shown by your photo

“This includes the outer facing facade, fence of these locations, and property boundaries.”

This LFL is attached to the property boundary/fence and is therefore on SFPRP using Niantic’s rules. This is definite grounds for removal.

Thanks for the appeal, @rijknietarm! We have taken another look, but stand by our decision to retire the Wayspots.
