Looking for advice

My son lives in a suburban area, on Saltspring Island where there doesent appear to be any suitable pokeystops.

I tried twice to submit the Canada Post Mailbox, but i was unsuccessful.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

The closest existing Pokeystop, is over a kilometer away.

Ideally i would like to stay off the Highway, and walk along the suburban roads.

Welcome to the forum.

I don’t see how this would meet any of the critieria for exercise, exploration, or being social, as explained here: Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center

The community has come up with a topic on suggestions which may help: Tips for Rural Nominators

If you would like to leave a general location, some folks on the forum are really good at looking around on the map and making suggestions. Be careful to protect your/his privacy if you do.

Hi, before I do too much of a deep dive, is this the correct location around Saltspring Way on Saltspring island? If yes, perhaps this pilates studio would work, unless it is at a private residence.

And seems like there are a bunch of trails around that would make great wayspots

Thank you wooperlooper,The Saltspring Way Pilates is a private residence.
And yes it on the same road that im hoping to establish a new pokeway.
I had thought about building a mini library, so I may have to get to work.

And thank you for the trails link. My son and I walked Burgoyne bay trails and visited many wayspots in that park.

The goal is to be able to go for walks from home.

Thanks again.

That could work, as long as it’s not placed on private residential property.

Though this could also be considered abuse since you’re making an object specifically to turn it into a Pokestop. I’ve seen people get banned for making one of those insect hotel things and submitting it as a Pokestop.

Those trails are a solid place to start. Any map signs or trail markers would be eligible submissions.

I’m looking at Google Maps and it’s gonna be rough to find eligible things in that neck of the woods for sure. I can see there are some BnB’s in the area? Those might be eligible. I recall a topic here where someone tried to have a BnB removed which was denied.

I also saw the Salt Spring Apple Company, which appears to be an orchard. Might be some stuff there that’ll pass the test.

This is some stuff I found earlier that could work. Are there any scenic view points/ benches with nice views nearby? Perhaps at that lake that’s on the map?

I’ll also link the Guide for rural nominators.

There’s some stuff like yoga, disc golf, a place called cider works, and some things recommended by the BC Farmer’s Market Trail that sound promising. Any community notice boards could also work? Are there any attached to the mail boxes?

And ithere also seems to be a biking trail close to the location, if there are trail markers for that that could be good too

this seems like a good resource

Thank you for your kind suggestions and tips.

My son and I went to check out the bike lane, and unfortunately it is a bike route but no specific signs, and it happens to be a regular road.

I did though discover a watertower. Photo attached. And can anyone other than a business use their store’s names? Fields is not far away.

Im headed back to my home now. Perhaps I’ll try the watertower and or Fields next time im visiting Saltspring.

From what I can find, Fields is a generic kind of supermarket like Walmart or Target. That probably won’t make it through reviews.

The only private residence thats ineligible is single family one(sfprp). Private residence like condominium and apartment is allowed

Ah that’s unfortunate! I’m not so sure that water tower is eligible, seems like basic infrastructure.

Do you know what this little wooden house thingy is?

And what is this? I can’t find it online. Is it a b&b?

I found this little bridge that looks like it might be part of a condo, so maybe eligible?

And lastly, I found this car stop. I am not familiar with these, they don’t have these where I am from. But if I understand it correctly, they are essentially places where kind strangers offer to give pedestrians a lift? I am wondering if those might be eligible under the socialize or explore criterion? I would need someone else to weigh in that might be more familiar with this system, they might be similar to bus stops so not eligible, but there could be a case for them?

Edit: One final idea, and it’s perhaps a bit weak, but the hemp house hair salon on that street seems to have an “educational window” which could maybe work. It’s a big maybe though

I’m going to Saltspring Island on Saturday and I’ll check it out.

I “think” it’s a farmstand, which may not be there anymore.

Are farmstands suitable??

There is no eligibility statement on “farmstands” if that is what you are asking. I have seen ones I would submit and ones I would not. Is it a point of interest worthy of exploring that is permanent? Then maybe!

Thank you, everyone for your help.

I guess its just not meant to be.

The nearest Gym is over a Kilometer away and I was hopeful to find a suitable location much closer to my son’s home.

When he visits me in Duncan, there are probably close to 100 spots within 2 Kilometers

If the dentist has a small play area for kids that could work too, but do find out what that potential bnb actually is because they have a lovely mailbox that might be a potential spot

Thank you all for your assistance.
I have to admit that I didn’t know the dentist office was there.

I just submitted the request.

Let’s cross our fingers

Unfortunately, my Dentist Office nomination has been denied.

I have been following the sub urban/ rural lack of pokestops, and I see we aren’t alone.

The good news is that so.eone else was able to have a nomination accepted which is about Âľ of a kilometer away which I will try to creat new routes once I give the greater a chance to do so him/herself.

Just to clarify, wooperlooper suggested the play area inside the dentist office rather than the dentist office itself. The office is a place to conduct business while the play area is for recreation. The play area resonate with the eligibility criteria rather than the office.

And that is if the dentist has a play area, which @wooperIooper very clearly qualified with.
