Hello! I would like to get some feedback on this rejected nomination. It is a traditional sundial located on a facade in Almunia de San Juan.
Title: Reloj Solar Casa Charlez
My comments: The sundial is visible from the public sidewalk (as seen in the supporting photo). It is a piece of local artistic heritage. I would like to know if this is being rejected because it’s considered a private residence or if there is something I can improve in the photos/text.
By the way, I’d like to know if I should create three separate posts for the three nominations I need help with, or if I can just post them one after another here. I don’t want to spam the forum with too many threads, even though I’m starting with three, I might end up sharing a few more, haha!
I understand why nominations inside private residences are rejected, but the essence of this specific point of interest is that, being a sundial, you don’t need to enter the house to admire it. I thought this would make it acceptable, even knowing the rules about private buildings.
I wanted to focus on two things: it’s a large, ancient, and beautifully decorated piece that can be perfectly appreciated from the street. Because it’s a sundial, there’s no need to get close to or enter the residential area to enjoy it. I probably didn’t explain this well enough in my original submission.
Regarding the heraldic shield on the same house, I don’t quite understand its rejection either, as it is a noble coat of arms and part of our local history. However, I will go into more detail about the shield in a separate post to keep this discussion focused on the sundial.
I honestly understand the rules, but I would love for this nomination to be looked at differently. In a small village, it’s not always easy to find interesting Points of Interest, and this is clearly something beautiful and unique to see. It’s a shame to lose such a high-quality landmark over a technicality. Even after explaining all this, I’m not sure if it will change the community’s mind, but I wanted to share why these are important to us.
The community often incorrectly accepts things in these locations. This clarification is from Niantic, and I believe the strict rules around SFPRP come from a lawsuit settlement.
I hate to have to tell someone that what they want to submit is not eligible without making a suggestion of something else to nominate instead, but I am afraid to make recommendations from the map in a language I can’t read. So let me suggest this topic to you, where forum users have made a list of points of interest you might look for: Tips for Rural Nominators
