No Access to Gym - Grecian Style Water Fountain

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Grecian Style Water Fountain
  • Location (lat/lon): 39.980489,-75.196983
  • City: Philadelphia
  • Country: USA
  • Additional Information (if any):

This is an old stone water fountain, but the parks department roped this area off and we are no longer allowed to walk on it. It cannot be reached from the adjacent sidewalk, making this gym no longer reachable legally. The fountain is all the way in the back of this photo. Without being able to walk onto the grass, it cannot be reached. Photo from google maps shows how far back into the grass this is.

Restricted access like apartment/business/or paid entry like amusement park is not reason for removal. If you cant access the gym, please dont trespass and find other gym to play.

This still appears to have reasonable accessibility. Not everyone has to be able to fully access wayspots at all times.

Have you reported these and had those reports rejected?
This area is only for appeals where a report has already been considered and you should post evidence of that rejection.

It’s not restricted access, it is now NO access. For anyone, ever. This is no longer accessible by anyone in any capacity.

Just because its not open to public and you cant access it, doesnt means it have to go

It is roped off and the parks department will not allow anyone back into this area. It is now a restoration area for habitat and trees, they are adding no trespassing signage (the wind knocked down some of the ropes in the photo).

This cannot be accessed by anyone and has been cut off. It should not be a stop or a gym. Yes, it has been rejected, I stupidly deleted the rejection email by mistake.

It is still accesible to people in park department so its still eligible

Ah that is unfortunate that you deleted the previous request.
I suggest you try reporting again with additional proof regarding inaccessibility several geotagged photos helps, and perhaps since it is a change there is a webpage reference.
If that is denied you are welcome to appeal that denial but please rember tgat you will need the proof that it has already been considered.

The parks department is not going to enter a treated restoration area to do a raid, nor should they. I find that argument to be nonsensical.

Thank you for the comments. Part of the issue is that to get in range of this gym to report it again, I would need to trespass!

Just because you cant use the gym, doesnt mean noone in park department play pogo

I presume you didn’t trespass the first time but photos from around the area would be helpful.
And surely there must be some web based evidence around the change of use?? It would be a common thing to do in the U.K.

The first time it was still open, and then the parks department began closing off the area and treating it. I have not yet found anything on their website, but I shall check again, thank you.

I would look for minutes from public meetings. The city might have discussed this issue in a meeting and published their plan for how they are working to restore the area. That could serve as proof if they describe that all access is completely restricted now.

I Was unable to find anything about part of the park being closed off.

What I did find was an article able the rope barrier that was installed at this park to stop people parking on the grass: Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is cracking down on parking on the grass along Kelly Drive

That would appear to be consistent with the white rope in the photos.

This might be a temporary situation and once the ground has repaired it will be re-opened. Those white ropes don’t have a look of permanance.

Perhaps an easier question and answer for this:

Assuming this park has been permanently closed off to become some sort of natural area where there is to be no public access: Has the fountain been removed?

If so, report (with proof) that the wayspot no longer exists.

All the arguments about access and who has it then become irrelevant, if the fountain is gone.

The fountain is still there. It’s part of the remains of a former mansion, and I assume the city has no desire to remove it. In an ideal world this would just change to a stop instead of a gym. The statue just next to it would be a far better gym and easily accessed from both sidewalks.

You can report from outside of range by using the report option on the Wayfarer map rather than in game. I had a similar situation; a former shopping center in my area closed, was demolished, and is now under construction to become apartments. It had two gyms unreachable from outside the construction fencing (and the pictured items no longer exist as they were restaurant decor in the old building). They have now been removed.
