Non-native language descriptions

What is the best action to take when you’re asked to review something but the supporting information is not in your native language? In my case, I’m in the USA and I only speak English. I’ve seen several nominations that are in Spanish and I’m not sure how we are supposed to handle them. They’ve been from all over the USA and not all of them are from areas that I’d immediately identify as heavily Spanish-speaking, but since none of them are local to me I couldn’t really say one way or the other without significant time spent researching.

Point being, I haven’t come across any user support, help guides, or FAQs that address this - what to do when asked to review non-native language submissions.

Should I skip and let multi-lingual users deal with it?
Should I mark it is an inaccurate title/description?
Should I use a translation app and treat it the same as something presented in English?
Something else?

Welcome to the forum! Good question!

Using a translation app is what I recommend. There is no language requirement for Wayfarer. If you are uncomfortable with the translation still, you can skip. We have 100 skips that renew every 24 hours. It is not an inaccurate title/description just for being in a different language, but you can use that if the translation indicates that it is unacceptable.

People in other countries are used to the language issue, and may have more tips for you.

Just adding, it feels like it’s gotten less common as nominations go through faster, but it used to be typical for us US reviewers to see candidates in Puerto Rico, US Vırgin Islands, Guam, and Saipan. We even will see some along the boarder of Canada and Mexico.

As stayed above, there is no language requirement. I’ve submitted in both Spanish and English when abroad. Many pockets across the US have non-English commonly used. I think it’s important to allow the submitter to present their candidates and curate their area in the way they can best.

I personally think it’s fun to test my Duolingo skills
