Only 1 Gym for 500,000 People in Az-Zāwiyah, Libya - Level 52 Player Appeal

Yes, @salixsorbus, I can confirm those coordinates (32.752925, 12.733348) are perfect! They are right in the heart of Az-Zāwiyah.

I am truly speechless—thank you so much for offering to change your bonus location to help us. This is exactly the kind of “seed” support I was hoping for. Having an experienced reviewer like you looking at our area will make a world of difference.

I’ll get to work immediately on those new submissions. I’m excited to show you the best landmarks our city has to offer!

Even in Tripoli I am seeing places with “no wayspots nearby” on the check for duplicates screen!

That’s very interesting @frealafgb! It’s surprising that even in a major city like Tripoli, there are still so many “blank spots” on the map.

This confirms that our entire region needs a lot of work. Since I travel between Az-Zāwiyah and Tripoli, I will take this as a mission to identify and submit high-quality landmarks in both cities.

It’s exciting to know that the system is finally opening up for us. I’ll make sure my next batch of submissions covers these empty areas with the professional standards we discussed.

The map is about to look very different soon!

One thing I am noticing a lot of is that people are using the same photo for both their main and supporting photos. It would be better to take a wider photo of the area (still including the PoI) as the supporting especially as there is no street view. This just helps to confirm that the location is correct .

Here is an example of how I tend to do this. In my supporting picture you can see it’s by a large road and near to a railway bridge. That gives a bit of context that the location I pinned is accurate.

I’m going to change my bonus location as well; I’d spent some bonus time in Australia, but this is a great excuse to change and see what else might be out there for fun.

Another quick tip for those in the area: watch where you’re pinning things. Google translate tells me this nomination is for the mosque. The pin is on the elementary school. That’s a faux pas on two levels: inaccurate and at a school.

In addition, a lot of what was in the description box here, talking about the lack of proximity to the school, would be best put in the supporting information. The description box is for what the POI is, not what it isn’t.

Thank you so much for the heads-up and for taking the time to correct the location yourself, @darkersolstice! I truly appreciate that extra effort to help the nomination succeed.

I’ve learned a very important lesson today about the “Description” vs “Supporting Information” and the absolute precision needed for the pin location, especially near schools.

From now on, I will be 100% focused on these details in my upcoming nominations to make sure they are perfect from the start and don’t waste your valuable time.

I’m currently preparing a football pitch submission, and I’ll be applying everything I learned here today. Thanks for being such a supportive community!

Football pitches are good locations

Do read this about submitting them

Thank you very much @elijustrying for the expert advice and for sharing the “Sports Fields” criteria. It is truly an honor to have an Ambassador’s guidance on this thread.

I’ve carefully read the guidelines you provided. I’ll make sure the pin is placed correctly at the edge of the pitch to ensure it respects the activity on the field while being easily accessible.

I also have some exciting news to share: my first nomination in this new phase, “Al-Khutbah Mosque,” has just been approved! This success, combined with your tips, gives me great confidence that we are building a solid and high-quality foundation for our local map.

I’m currently waiting for the best lighting and a time when the pitch is empty to capture the perfect, person-free photos.

Thank you for being part of this journey!

Make sure not to misplace nominations for cell reasons.

That could lead to sanctions on your account.

Good luck

They have no need to even consider misplacement because all the cells are empty

Good to know.

Still good to point out always regardless

Thank you @AMG7070 for the warning. I want to assure you that my priority is accuracy. I always place the pin exactly on the landmark’s real-world location. My goal is to build a high-quality map that lasts, and I would never risk my account for a minor cell adjustment.

And as @frealafgb mentioned (with a good laugh!), I’m lucky that most of the area is currently a “blank canvas,” so finding empty cells for accurate placements is not a challenge at all right now! :joy:

By the way, I have some great news to share with the group: “Al-Khutbah Mosque” has been officially approved!

I’m now preparing the football pitch nomination, following the Ambassador’s advice on pin placement to ensure it is 100% accurate and follows the rules.

Good to hear.

Congrats on the acceptance of your nomination. It should be going live in-game today.

If you want I can change my bonus location towards your location?

Good luck

I changed my bonus area to here also.

Very first one I got when I ran it through Google Translate appeared to be talking about this being a great place for trainers to relax, which I assume to be a Pokemon Go reference.

This might not have been submitted by the OP, but submissions should avoid in-game references.

Something you can keep in mind with the mosques is that it is entirely permissible to have separate waypoints for the mosque itself and a point of interest inside or on the building. I know mosques don’t have religious sculptures or art depicting figures most of the time, but if any have really incredible tilework or architectural features, those may be worth separate submissions.

And that is when paying attention to the S2 cells will matter more, when you’re realizing one may span cell lines.

I got some of this too. It’s sad to have to reject some things when there’s clearly so much potential but we all make mistakes when starting out, and I hope we can help a lot with this kind of advice and the area can grow rapidly over the next few weeks :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Another note. Even if it occupy the same cell, unused wayspot might become powerspot in future. So sometimes we look into occupied cell to get 2nd wayspot

It seems like a lot of the mosques have the google maps icon for education, probably not actual children’s schools but places for learning within the mosque? So that kind of thing can be separately eligible like you say, as well as any event and community spaces within the building complex

Thank you for bringing this to my attention @Tntnnbltn.

To be completely honest, I was the one who submitted that nomination, and I sincerely apologize for the mistake. I was under the impression that the most critical rules to follow were avoiding faces and license plates, which I have been very careful about. I also focused on other technical aspects like location accuracy and pedestrian safety.

However, I truly didn’t realize that using in-game references like “Trainers” was prohibited. I’ve learned a very important lesson today thanks to your feedback.

I will immediately go through my pending nominations and edit or withdraw any that contain similar references to ensure they meet the professional standards required. This won’t happen again in my future submissions.

I’m grateful to have such an experienced community and Ambassadors guiding me to become a better Wayfinder. Thanks again for the correction!
