I live in an area near my country’s border to a country that speaks a different language.
Due to this I often receive nomination reviews about locations across the border that I do my best to machine translate to still accurately be able to review.
However sometimes the author of the nomination either writes the optional nomination description or the actual POI description in english and it makes me wonder:
Is there any sort of consensus on using multiple languages to write the POI’s title and/or description?
I think it could be cool for people that don’t speak the native language of the area they are exploring, so they could still learn about the area’s culture and history behind the POIs, but character limit could be troublesome when it comes to this and it could get cluttered.
I am not a huge fan of split languages, title in one language and description in another but I don’t ever hold it against anybody who submits something like that.
I do like the ones that are in both. I sometimes get nominations from a part of the big city near me that has a rather large population of Chinese people who live in the area so I lot of the nominations have the title and description in both Chinese and English.
For me, as long as the title and description make sense, are within the guidelines, and are relevant to the nomination than I I don’t give them a second thought and move on to reviewing the rest of the nomination.
Completely valid, especially considering the geography of some linguistic areas. What matters is that each bit of text makes sense individually, and reviewers can verify this with translation tools.
For context, I am one of those people regularly using English in their supporting info and other languages for title and description, due to the audience of my nominations speaking 4-5 distinct languages. I can’t guess who I will get.
