I’m reaching out to ask if there are any opportunities to add more Gyms to our local park to better support the Pokémon GO community.
Our local group is active and growing, and I’d love to help make the park a stronger destination for community meetups and events. I’ve already submitted an application to become a Community Ambassador because I’m committed to organizing local gatherings and encouraging more players to participate.
Right now, it’s difficult to host meetups outside of Spotlight Hours because the park doesn’t have enough Gyms to support larger groups or create an engaging gameplay experience. Compared to other parks in the region, our location has significantly fewer Gyms, which makes it less attractive for community events.
As a result, many of our local players regularly drive 45 minutes to an hour to participate in raids and larger meetups at other parks. Having additional Gyms at our park would help build a stronger local community, make events more accessible, and encourage more players to gather closer to home.
I understand that Gym placement follows specific criteria and processes, but I wanted to express how much of a positive impact additional Gyms would have on our community. If there are any recommendations or steps we can take to improve our park’s eligibility, I’d greatly appreciate your guidance
For longer term, Once you become pogo community ambassador, you can propose extra pokestop and gym (subject to approval) to pogo team. But this will be outside wayfarer scope .
From wayfarer side we can help if you would like help in nomination in your area. After all, its better to fill your gathering spot with whats eligible first and then fill up the remaining empty space with campsite.
This park has an active pokestop in almost every cell! There’s not a lot of scope for adding more pokestops…
It also has 5 gyms within 300 meters of each other. I am struggling to see this as a location described as not having enough gyms and as being large enough to have more than it already has.
[Edited as I missed one gym - there are 5, not just 4]
Based on other location that I have attended for meetup or raid hours it can’t compare.
Is there the possibility of suggesting the one near be located? Some of the spot that are currently you have to cross roads or parking lots to get in.
A comparable park in size that I believe is set up nicely
Riverfront park
Vista Del Oro, Oro Valley, AZ 85737
The interaction distance is 80m, meaning you can join a raid if you are within 80m of the gym.
Raids at “Panorama” (beyond the SW corner) can be joined from the edge of the car park or the easily accessed land to the SW of the “Small playground” pokestop
Raids at “US Post Office, North Lon Adams Road…” can be joined from anywhere in the open parking space opposite, next to the park.
Raids at “Ora Mae Harn District Park” can be joined from inside the park, near “Park Flagpole”
Raids at “Marana Community Center” can be joined from almost anywhere in that car park
Raids at “Ramada #2” are the easiest as this is in the centre of the park.
You have to walk around a little from one raid to the next, but this is flat country and the longest walk between the interaction-distance of any of these five gyms is less than 300m.
As others have said the park is too full to add any pokestops except through the community ambassador campsite project. However there is the possibility that some of the current stops could become a new gym. I see there is a new housing community to the south with a halfcourt basketball and what looks like a play structure? Add the basketball court pinned to the west edge and the playground pinned to the east edge of the play area. If you can find 2 more things in this area or a bit to the south to become pokestops then one of the stops in the park may become a gym.
You need 7 new things to the northwest to get another gym. This includes the municipal complex and the neighborhood north of that. Looks like the church has a waypoint at the sign by the road but I bet there are religious sculptures, stained glass, and a big cross somewhere around. Find something in the north and south end of the church. There is an employee picnic area at the business across from the church. See about getting invited inside and take some photos. There is some art on the front entrance of the library and if pinned accurately at the very front of the building could be a pokestop. Otherwise look for or instigate a program with the library to install art in the parking lot. For the civic center, go inside and look for sculptures, dedications and other art.
The blue is close location of current gyms that in my opinion is not a suitable location. Red is just an idea closer to is a safer location for the gym, all in walking paths pogo players can safely be to raid. If nothing can be done it’s understandable. The few that use this park have to drive to hit these location. My hopes is that it is set up for folks to enjoy the park and able to walk the park. This would increase the pogo community interest in using this park
I did not ask to have all gym located there, as mentioned before the ambassador program is to be the only hope. This park will not have a chance to be a place a ambassador can successfully host event until then. The red indicate the park designed walking path. I was not requesting the gym be moved to the location specific but the gym on the outskirts of the park be moved in toward that direction. Previous message someone asked to let’s take a look and see what possible, so I posted the location and what existing. But it seem most responses here did not see that part.
Well honestly after looking here, your best chance to gey more gym is campsite. But while you are waiting for campsite from pogo ambo, you can try if you can get more wayspot from empty cell. There are some suggestion above thats possible.
Appreciate everyone input. The goal is a solid location for this area to play. As we drive an hr out to get to a good spot this is our area main park Just can’t beat out these others
Any suggestion on how to verify empty cells to see if there items in there worth nominations.
If not we will wait to see if we are accepted and go from there. Currently struggling to get a 10 person meetup which we need 4 as it’s a requirement for the pogo ambassador program
