In areas without street view, sometimes there are 0 clues to go off of as to the location of a given object. I feel that oftentimes, seeing the supporting image would fix that. I assume that the supporting image may not be saved for storage reasons, but it does make it almost impossible to review location edits. Also, allowing a supporting statement might help. I understand that you can edit the location through help chat and provide additional evidence there, but I would assume some people that don’t understand that Wayfarer is separate from PoGo would just try to edit the location through the app again and again.
