Pokestop immediately removed day after put in-game

Hi, the last few weeks have been weird for my neighbourhood. I’ve encountered many PokéStop removals in the last few days. Yesterday, a Wayspot was accepted and added in-game, but today it was removed again.

I don’t understand why, because I’ve nominated countless Wayspots like this before. But this one gets removed after less than a day?

I would really like an explanation for this removal, because I worked very hard to help build a great community.

Thanks!

Coordinates of removed pokestop: Latitude: 52.20006 | Longitude: 5.949837

City: Apeldoorn

Country: The Netherlands

Wayspots of those cycle signs are almost guaranteed to be removed by Niantic if they notice them as they have deemed them to be ineligible and standard road infrastructure.

The community generally disagrees and approves them. This creates conflict, but as it is Niantic’s game and their ruling is very clear, it is best not to submit them.

There’s a thread somewhere that @AMG7070 (and others) can probably find better than me.

Here is a link to where I asked for an explanation about which get removed.

I still don’t understand, but am not local.

The response from Niantic was specifically about the cycle signs which are a number in a circle with an arrow above (or below or wherever it is), which is exactly what this sign is:

“We have discussed these at length in the past and have deemed them to be street infrastructure and not designated trails.”

“These are not designated Trails but nodes/junction markers.”

It is fairly hard for the people responding on this thread outside of Benelux to fully understand this, as the cycle routes in the UK (me) are different and in the US (@cyndiepooh) mostly non-existent.

I asked @NianticAaron for clarification which never came. The British markers in that topic sure look an awful lot like the Dutch markers that are remove-on-sight, and yet they seemingly get to stay in the game.

The views of the wayfarers in the Belenux have been consistently shown on this forum to be different to Niantic’s stance. Niantic will be well aware of this yet their position has not changed.

I’ve just been looking at the website for these kinds of markers. From what I’m gathering, rather than representing individual routes, they function a bit like a dot-to-dot system where you can effectively make your own routes by connecting them up?

If so, that is certainly an interesting way of doing things, but it isn’t like the NCN markers we have in the UK, which follow specific routes from a start point to an end point. That’s not to say you can’t combine routes, as there are places where NCN routes do intersect and you can effectively choose to switch from one route to another at such points, but the whole routes still exist and the markers denote which route you’re following, rather than just being an individual point that you can link up with other nearby individual points.

For what it’s worth, I’m not saying that the ones in Benelux/Germany should be ineligible due to that difference, I’m just saying that there is a difference. As stated, I find your way of doing them quite interesting. If anything it seems to offer more flexibility and also means you can experience something different every time if you want to.

That fits what I have read here before.

For clarity, is this a marker saying “route 43 follows this way” or a marker saying “node 43 is ahead” ?

That is correct. They are different, though the purpose is the same, to help people find a nice route through the country by bike.

Node 4 is up ahead, and yes there are very many nodes in The Netherlands and Belgium:

That makes them more like a sign saying “something interesting is this way” than a sign saying “this is something interesting”. Niantic’s position has at least some merit, rather than being completely outrageous.

Well it’s certainly not outrageous. But these signs do mark the touristic route to get to these nodes, so they do encourage exploring and exercise (this is typically what you would follow if you do a trip with family and friends to enjoy biking)

Hey @YTDieEnePCGast

Edit: @salixsorbus thanks for the tag on this topic.

Thanks for the appeal, @YTDieEnePCGast! We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
