Question about criteria

Can I know what the criteria for a popular restaurant are? cause having a popular restaurant in your area is very subjective. for example, in My place here a popular restaurant for us is called “Impian Maju (mamak)” is very popular among people in my area. So my question is can I/we still submit it as a contribution for POI?

It is truly subjective. That is why the article above really highlights additional proof to show that the restaurant is favorite/popular/unique.

It helps to hammer in the description what type of socialization, exploration, or exercise the particular business is great for and for what audience.

Think of Wayfarer as a communication game where you should lay out specific merits to show that your POI fits within the criteria, given it is truly acceptable/not within rejection criteria.

For your reference, here is an example of a restaurant description I applied for and was approved for. These are accompanied by a collage of supplemental images and a food image.

Example Description:
This ramen restaurant is particular about its additive-free soup made from dried sardines, Rausu kelp, and other ingredients. The restaurant offers a diverse lineup, including thick Japanese-style tonkotsu shoyu, light salt ramen, tsukemen, mazesoba, etc. The toppings, such as three different types of fried pork chops and fried lotus root, which are cooked in different ways for each part, are also highly valued by the customers.

Example Description:
The thick, chewy noodles, which are aged twice under thorough temperature control, and the original refreshing soup stock, which is a blend of kelp and dried bonito flakes based on iriko from Ibukijima Island in Kagawa Prefecture, are the specialties of this Sanuki Udon restaurant.

Example Description:
The restaurant is popular for its excellent tonkatsu, which are made from carefully selected meats, such as Yamagata pork loin, US pork belly, and chateaubriand, and deep-fried slowly at a low temperature and cooked to the center using residual heat. The thin, crispy batter and soft, fluffy meat are served with homemade porcini salt and local sauce.

I want to add some advice to this thread. Yes, the criteria for what was once referred to as a “hyperlocal hot spot” are very subjective. That gives submitters a lot of freedom in deciding what to nominate. It also leads to frustration.

My general advice I give to local wayfarers is to show, not just say, how the nomination meets criteria. I encourage submitters to use the supporting information to provide links to stories, articles, websites, etc. that show how the site is special and meets criteria. This can turn a mediocre nomination into a great one that will be easily approved.
