I would like to ask you experienced Wayfarer members for advice.
On our street, we have a municipal loudspeaker located on a street lamp fence right next to the sidewalk, which, in my opinion, could have a chance of becoming a point of interest as it is a meeting place and a source of important information for local residents.
However, this nomination is rejected before it even gets to the voting stage—I assume through some kind of AI system?
Would you recommend how I should proceed? Maybe take better photos or describe it better? I received a terse email response—only that it does not meet the criteria.
I tried the nomination twice, I appealed once but it was rejected, so I don’t want to try anything else and appeal again because I’m afraid I’ll get some kind of penalty for repeatedly nominating the same thing over and over again – is this concern even valid?
It is recommended to improve the submission of a specific point of interest with each resubmission. But for this case specifically, I would advise not to pursue.
This is a very longshot in my opinion. First, the argument for socialization seems not evident as there are no amenities for groups to stay put. Another is that the information conveyed by these may be for alerts and time; I do not see the loudspeakers being used to promote social events. It would be impractical to keep the announcements on full blast for these types of events.
While important, we should keep the relevance with respect to the eligibility criteria: Is it a great place for socialization, exploration, or exercise? I do not see any of the three fitting this POI.
Generic Infrastructure: This is just a utility pole/public address system. In Wayfarer, this is treated the same as a street lamp or traffic sign—it is mass-produced and not visually unique.
Does not meet criteria: It fails all three core criteria (Exercise, Exploration, Socializing). The argument that it is a ‘meeting place’ is very weak; people do not actually gather under a loudspeaker pole to socialize.
AI was right: The automated system correctly identified this as a common utility object.
