Nomination:

Title in Polish:

Hotel dla jeży

in English:

Hedgehog shelter

Description in Polish:

Domek dla jeży umożliwiający małym ssakom bezpieczne przezimowanie, w dobrych warunkach, bez obawy o zaatakowanie przez innego drapieżnika. Domek zostal stworzony przez członka lokalnej społeczności

in English:

A hedgehog shelter that allows the small mammals to hibernate safely in good conditions, without fear of being attacked by another predator. The shelter was created by a member of the local community.

in English:

The facility is publicly accessible, accessed from the side of the alleys adjacent to the apartment buildings on Zbiorcza Street. Like insect/bee etc hotels, hedgehog shelters serve an educational and conservation purpose, ensuring the animals’ survival during the winter season, meeting the acceptance criteria and guidelines of Wayfarer. The facility is permanent and accessible, not intended for temporary use, also it is rare type of shelter, draws attention to helping small mammals survive the winter

Hi!
I have question about this nomination, it’s rejected automatically and I’m not fully aware why?
This is a shelter made by Polish company that helps mammals in National Park etc. Our local community started an initiative in our neighborhood (we have two hedgehog shelters) to raise awareness of the difficulties that small mammals experience in winter. There is a huge population of wild cats that destroys natural habitats of hedgehogs, so I think it’s important topic to talk about how we, as a people, can help them. There are so much people among us - Pokemon Go players that can learn something new from object like this and maybe expand this initiative, and help small mammals.

It’s not so common in Poland to encounter such an object in big city (to be fair in my whole 29 years old life I never encountered “wild” hedgehog shelter). We have in Pokemon Go object that aren’t unique like LFL (little free library) etc, and they are accepted because of their characteristics that are similar to hedgehog shelters.

Thank you for any response and advice. Have a good day/night!

Hey, this object is for protecting and supporting wildlife and as such, it is not suitable as a Wayspot to have players disturb them, making it ineligible

I see, but you are not obligated to interact with it directly to be eligible. Wayspots should encourage players to discover new places, bring some values, as I know in criterias there is nothing about direct interaction with object that is nominated as a wayspot. Additionally following this principle objects in museums shouldn’t be a wayspots to because you can’t touch them, often you can even get too close to them.

That is a false equivalency. Museum displays are set out to attract visitors to come see them. Wildlife shelters are set out for wildlife, and are best left undisturbed by humans. IF there is educational material about the project, you could submit an informational sign.

That was only an example exposing that you don’t need direct interaction with object, to have a good wayspot as a point of your route while playing. Actually you have really big radius of interaction in game so you don’t need to be too close to pokestop to use it.
Additionally this shelter is near places where people are normally walking, and it’s protecting hedgehogs from wild animals and winter not from people in direct way. So adding it as a wayspot shouldn’t make more problems, but can bring some value and informations

You need to be able to interact at 0m from the wayspot. Although this is not necessary for Pokemon Go, it definitely was for Ingress and might be in the future for other games that use Wayfarer. I can’t comment on Pikmin.

Hello and Welcome,

I was not sure how to think about this…

  • First thought was that “Insect Hotels” are accepted but Insects are probably not going to be affected by passers by.
  • Then I agree with the comments regards disturbing Hedgehogs, I have 2 Hedgehog Shelters in the garden and will avoid going close when I know "someone is at home :hedgehog: ".
  • Is there any sign that states the area is for “wildlife”? . A “Wildlife” area would be a better nomination IMO.

Good luck.

You’ve got it backwards. The value and information already need to be present at the location and then Wayfarer can be used to highlight what is there. Wayfarer doesn’t exist to create value and information. As Cyndie mentioned, if there was an informational board here that explained what this shelter was and anything about hedghogs or biodiversity, that would make a great Wayspot. But you adding the educational content in the description is not how something has value.
