Like many Confederate monuments, this was erected at the state capitol in 1969 as a reminder to black and white people about supremacy.
-
Inscription: “honors the memory of those who served and those who died in the service of the Confederate States of America 1861-1865 'Tell it as you may, it never can be told; sing it as you will, it never can be sung; the story of the glory of the men who wore the gray’” (Historical note: Confederate uniforms were gray. Or grey.)

Niantic removed thousands of Confederate statues and monuments on July 4, 2020, and have removed others since then, for moral reasons.

I looked for it when I was there but could not find it. If I took pictures, they’re drowning in other pictures. Nashville had arguments over Confederate monuments, and decided to keep the statue in Centennial Park - I believe they removed this plaque so it wouldn’t cause a fuss as well. I won’t be back there for years.

(Irrelevant, but happy: I added a different wayspot when I was there - the statehouse grounds will still be as fun to play.)
