Replacing a generic Wayspot from a mass import

Hi all – there is a generic Wayspot with no photo and no description that I’d like to replace with a submission for a basketball court that is at the same location. What’s the right way to go about this?

Name: Snug Harbor Ave
Location: Highlands, NJ
Lat/Long: 40.406119, -73.994089

If this were a community-submitted Wayspot, I would report it, but since this came from a data import, I’m not sure that reporting it makes sense. I also don’t want to attempt to rename the Wayspot and add a photo as this could be considered repurposing.

Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance!

Speculation: This could be one of those imported Wayspots from a while ago. If it is a Pokestop and it is called a Basketball Court, I see no issue with you adding a photo to the existing nomination. If it is called Snug Harbor Avenue, I would argue that the placement isn’t related to the Basketball Court and you could be ok with submitting a new request for the court. However, I am willing to be wrong on this, but it will go down to subbing with good intentions.

Thanks – and yeah, I think it’s one of the imported Wayspots. It’s called Snug Harbor Ave, so maybe the best option is to submit the basketball court separately. The map pin for Snug Harbor Ave appears to be right in the middle of the basketball court, which isn’t a great place for people to stand, but I still don’t know if imported Wayspots should be reported or left alone.

I would leave it to your discretion as to whether you should report it. If it’s a reflection of what the location represents, it may be worth leaving it alone. It may be worth trying to see if you could justify renaming the Wayspot to something more appropriate.

I set this topic to following. It has been a long time since I have seen a courts of the world import, which this might be, and iirc, those did show up as Wayspots in review. I think this is one of them since it matches this listing: Highlands, NJ Basketball Court: Snug Harbor Ave – Courts of the World

In my opinion, you could just add a photo then submit a title and description edit for the existing pokestop. I do not see a need to remove and replace. This would not be a case of repurposing, since the original Wayspot was for the court.

I am going to check for older references about what to do when we came across one of these imports.

Following up on @cyndiepooh suggestion, if you decide to edit and it gets accepted, it may be worth asking for it to be moved to the edge of the Basketball court. But I’ll step away from the keyboard and let @cyndiepooh prove me wrong.

I was also going to suggest the location edit off the court but got sidetracked trying to find if we have been given a template on these - ty.

Ahh this being a Courts of the World import makes sense. Thanks for looking into it! I have been checking for older examples of how to deal with these too but not finding anything official.

@tomwe i think had a recent experience with updating a courts of the world import. tagging him.

I forgot to mention that the courts of the world titles do not have “basketball” in them as imported, because the database was for basketball courts, and “basketball” in them would have been redundant there. And since they were for an NBA game, I suppose it would have been redundant there, too. I wish the word had been added to better identify them, but it is what it is.

I can’t find any older references about how staff would like us to treat them. Any discussion at the time would have been on the old forum.

I think since I would want a location edit to take it to the edge and away from play that maybe a help chat contact to move location and a provide a photo and a better title might work?

I think that @tomwe used help chat for everything, but didn’t want to get the details wrong.

Hey! Help chat did not action my request to add a photo to my Courts… import update when I asked them. In the end I just added the photo in-game and also edited the title to add the words ‘basketball court’. These were both resolved by the community.

With proof available online exactly where this import came from you should have no issues if the community decide not to accept your updates.
