This “golden apple” statue was at the entrance to North School of Pudong Experimental Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (I know, long name). School official link:

The “golden apple” concept is usually related to education, so the sculpture is not here by chance. It is a part of this middle school, so falls under rejection criteria.
