Several poi's that are trailmarkers dissapeared

Did i miss something suddenly in my area the cycling trailmarkers are dissapearing i thought they were all valid and they were there for years i invested a lot of time for nominating stuff in a rural area and now, without knowing why they are dissapearing…

Btw I also noticed in ingress they are still there

FYI, Ingress is no longer a part of Wayfarer. The final sync with Wayfarer was in May 2025.

These markers are often discussed here. I don’t quite understand which are not considered eligible so will leave that for others to explain. I asked for clarification and was told something about needing to be at a node.

Dutch biking trails

In my view the Wayfarer staff have taken a completely wrong position regarding Dutch biking trails. Biking is very important in The Netherlands, we have more bikes than people. The government has even decided to assign official trail markers for recreational purposes. Many wayspots have been submitted, and in my view completely justified, as these are signs that have, by law, the purpose to mark recreational bike trails. There are also many signs, again by law, to mark infrastructure direction…

I feel like they already got accepted they are physically still there so i don’t see why they dissapear all of a sudden they are meant for cyclists to follow a certain route or to creat their own routes they are usually taking you to various places with natural sightings or cultural places or historical buildings…

So it’s very strange that they suddenly dissapear and i don’t talk about one i am talking about ± 10 for the moment

Unfortunately that is what happened. Niantic have taken a decision about which of these markers are acceptable and are cleansing the database.

I suspect they are seen as being too functionally equivalent to direction markers which are simply street furniture.

This is happening a lot the last months. So I’m sure you will get the standard reply: “we have taken another look, but we stand by our decision to retire this wayspot” .

I have stated it before, I don’t agree with Niantic as these trailmarkers are important for all people who want to follow recreational routes, and a such promote exploring and exercise.

But it is their database, so it really doesn’t matter what I think, it did make me stop reviewing and submitting.
