I’ve been having trouble determining whether a lot of nominations are relevant for exploration or to the community. I’ve seen a lot of nominations for welcome/entrance signs to gated communities, parks, plazas, etc. The places themselves are generally relevant to the community, but I’m not sure whether to vote in approval for them, since I don’t know whether I’m voting for the area the sign represents, or just the sign itself.
I have been begging for a clarification on these neighborhood signs. You can search this forum and find many discussions on them. In my opinion, and let me be clear that I am not staff, most of these do not meet any of the criteria of a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social. Occasionally one will be acceptable as a work of art or a historical designation, but mostly they just mark the real estate available there.
Here is a link to criteria https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/21-wayfarer/section/166-wayspot-criteria/ so you can determine for yourself if you think they meet it.
How to reject these if you feel they should be rejected is also an issue. We have been told that we can use the “not Distinct” rejection reason for something that just isn’t significant enought to be a Wasyspot. Thumbs down on the last three criteria questions does not reject.
I will address this separately. Parks and plazas can be great wayspots, and the signs represent these. I will link those clarifications.
In these cases, the sign is representing the great place for exercise, exploration, and/or being social. For parks, it is easy to see how they meet criteria. For shopping centers, the submitter should go to the extra effort to explain why it is a good Wayspot.
