Skip and IDK buttons

What impact do these buttons have on the nomination rating?

While the “skip” button is basically clear, the IDK button isn’t quite there. For example, if I cannot see the geolocation of a specific object because of (for example) trees, or because it is located somewhere inside a building with a large area. I should choose that I don’t know if this is the correct location, right? I can’t decide that this object is not there, because, for example, from the photo it is clear that the object is actually under the trees or inside the building. Accordingly, I cannot choose that the location is incorrect. However, there is a high probability that someone will not press the IDK button. He will decide that if there are trees or a building in the photo and geolocation, then it is probably really there. If the IDK button simply removes a point of influence on the result from you, then the overall result will still be positive and the nomination will be accepted in the place in which many are unsure and the rest agreed.

Essentially, the same thing happens with the “skip” button, only not within one criterion, but for the entire nomination.

Do these buttons have any effect on the outcome?

We don’t know and shouldn’t know as I could be used to manipulate results.

There will in all probability be some sort of weighting/ scoring on the different :+1::-1:IDK.

When I assess a nominatIon it is not up to me to try and guess what others may or may not do or what the effect of my selection may be.

I just do my part and vote according to criteria and answer the questions.

In your example if I can’t see clearly that the location is definately there I won’t choose :+1:

If I think it is not there or that the evidence is really poor then :-1:

If I think it is probably there, some evidence points to it but not conclusive then IDK.

It doesn’t matter what this might mean in the end of the day the important part is that is how I have voted.

(would be neat to know how it effects some things tho)

I kind of think of the IDK as +0, a thumbs up as a +1 and thumbs down as a -100.

Skip is a great option if you don’t know, but there is a limit to do number of skips you can do before you get a time out.

My understanding is that if you thumbs down to Social, Exercise and Exploration, this does not equal a rejection. Therefore logically this must count as an acceptance, even if a minor acceptance (whatever that might be).

From this, I don’t see that IDK can actually have any effect. If every reviewer chose IDK for the same question, the wayspot would still be accepted because no-one would have rejected it.

Skip is easier - it just means you have not voted in any way on that submission. If it takes 100 reviews, then it will still take 100 reviews and yours is not one of those.

Indeed, I was referring to a thumbs down on any of the categories that reject it.

The actual voting mechanism is a secret sauce, presumably the submission has to pass a certain threshold in a certain number of votes to pass or be rejected. I do sometimes see more marginal submissions spending a long time in voting, I guess as the voting system is trying to determine and consensus.

I dont know how IDK works. But we can work based on whats given. I would usually skip if there is too many IDK. But if i think it worth a shot, i would just press IDK on the criteria that i dont know.

I tend to use the IDK to highlight something not quite right, mainly when I have made a small location edit I would use IDK on Location.
