Hi, I submitted a plaqued tree in a public garden, which was initially rejected by the automated system, then on appeal it was rejected for lack of pedestrian access.
At the front of the garden, there is a bench on the pavement for people to sit and rest. The garden ground is grass and gravel, which can both be walked on to safely reach the tree from the pavement. All of the garden is public land, with no restriction against walking on it. For these reasons I believe there is sufficient pedestrian access and that it should have been accepted.
- Title: The Elizabeth Tree
- Description: A Paul’s Scarlet hawthorn tree planted in 2022 by T.R.E.E. (The Regeneration of Eaglesham’s Environment), to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
- Supplemental information: Safe pedestrian access with bench also on the island. About T.R.E.E. Who are we? - Eaglesham T.R.E.E.
- Location: 55.743445, -4.276156

I hope this can be looked at again because the supporting image clearly demonstrates safe pedestrian access and a space designed for people to spend time in
It could be the streetview on the side rd ( which could be where it lands ) is outdated but on the main road is clear that there are dropped kerbs to allow pedestrian access.
I would always use that fact that there are benches to show that access is expected and therefore safe.
The only reason I could see and it would be a very strict reading of the rules is that the nomination is for the Tree.
- Are people expected to walk on the grassed / gravel areas to the tree?
- If not, who will be able to read the plaque?
IMO: This should have been an easy Accept but I am just trying (with great difficulty) to find a reason it wasn’t
I hope Niantic overturn this appeal rejection. Safe pedestrian access is clear from the bench. The plaque itself is supposed to be viewed by people, so I it isn’t remarkable that people have to walk on gravel to get to it. Maybe the outdated streetview images from some angles got in the way.
Thanks to staff for taking another look, it’s just been accepted!
And thanks also to everyone in this thread, especially @frealafgb for suggesting that I make a forum post in the first place
