Tree sign declined

Hi, I have tried nominating a tree with a sign. The sign states its colloquial and botanical name. It is on public sidewalk.

Screenshot of the rejected submission:

Photos:

Title: Seesternbaum
Description: Liquidambar styraciflua. Der Amerikanische Amberbaum ist für seine auffällig sternförmigen Blätter und die spektakuläre, leuchtend rote bis violette Herbstfärbung bekannt.
Supplemental: This tree is planted on the communal sidewalk. The sign states the colloquial and botanical name of the tree.

Any ideas why it got rejected?
Should I appeal or nominate again with a photo that’s more focused on the sign?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

We don’t know exactly what makes the automated process reject. My guess is that it did not recognize what you were submitting. I would suggest cropping the photo to put the focus on the plaque and resubmitting

I would also recommend not including your hand in the supporting photo. That could be seen as a way to identify your nominations, and is a pet peeve of mine.

You can also appeal this rejection if you would rather. We get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before we can use them again. Since I have more nominations than appeals, I usually try a new submission first, unless there is no way I think I can improve on it.

This location does not look like it has any issues with it to me, but be aware that if this tree is on single family private residential property, then the location in ineligible, even if you can reach it from the sidewalk. Would you like to share the gps coordinates for confirmation that the location seems to be eligible?

Thanks for the input! I think I’d resubmit it with new photos then.

These are the coordinates: 49.60221082623509, 8.184107627009993
It is definitely not on private property. It’s a newly planted tree and I asked the owner of the adjacent house. They didn’t plant it.

If you think reviewers will struggle to find something in the supporting photo, explain where to look using the supporting text. I would also be very likely to reject because of that finger. I have seen people drawing arrows using editing software, which is OK.

I’m not familiar with signs in this area. This sign looks homemade to me.

That is a great point. It looks handcrafted to me, which is different from “homemade,” but that might be a reason why it struggled with the “automated process,” too. And could be an issue with reviewers.

I’m not very familiar with the rules.
Are there regulations against handcrafted or homemade wayspots? I don’t know who made this sign but it does look handcrafted.

The rules state something can’t be created just to make a waypoint.

IMO: You would have an easier job with this if it had more information such as where it was natively from, how high it could grow etc.

I’m not too keen on modifying a sign that isn’t mine. I’ll just try to resubmit with a clearer photo of the sign specifically and a different surrounding photo without my hand and see how that will go. Thanks!

That wasn’t what I was suggesting, just that if it already had more details I believe it would be easier to get an accept.

Of course; now I get it  sorry for the misunderstanding
