Hello!!! Thanks in advance for all of your assistance. I was super disappointed after grinding out reviews with well thought out input and finally earning an upgrade. I wanted to submit this little deli market that is unique and cultural to me. They have an outdoor patio dining area, deli, and lots of eastern european goods that I jave uet to explore. Its in a well lit area, located in a strip mall plaza. I felt like this was a homerun, so i used my upgrade only to jave it rejected in 10 minutes. 5 days of reviewa and aubmiaaiona to be shot down in 5 minutes. Just wanted aome advice before i waste anyones time by resubmitting it. Thanks in advance.
Welcome @nerdgasm49 !!!
To be a wayspot it needs to be a good place to socialise, explore or exercise. At least one of the three.
eg) Outdoor Dining Area – Bravo Market
Closein pic of the area with tables, chairs etc.
Supporting pic showing safe pedestrian access.
Specialising in trays of Balkan delights. This gives you the opportunity to explore favourite foods from a range of east European countries. You could name the countries – just expand on exactly what makes this place special in your district.
If you want the market itself as a wayspot you would have to show that it is unique in your area. A standout that offers food & ingredients from far away places. Maybe there is an art piece or something special inside??
Of course, anything you put in your nomination must be true.
Just some thoughts from me … others will know better.
I suggest you try doing some reviews to help get a handle on how the process works.
As submitted your nomination is not meeting criteria.
Best of luck …
Welcome to the forum. This may be eligible, but with “Generic business” as a rejection reason, this is one of the hardest kinds of nominations to get accepted. The previous advice to add more to the description about their specialties is spot on.
I would also recommend spending more time on the photo for your next submission. A great photo can help a nomination be accepted. This one has a lot of grass and sky compared to the point of interest you are nominating. I think this main photo would have looked better either taken in landscape mode or cropped to square. I take my photos before I ever begin my nomination, then crop, straighten, or otherwise slightly adjust them. When I make the nomination, I choose to use the existing photo option.
When you check the eligibility suggestions at Niantic Wayfarer it lists
- Popular restaurants
- Favorite coffee shops
It is difficult to see how a brand new place as indicated by the banner would have had time to be a local favorite, but not impossible. But that is the bar your nomination would have to meet.
Your supplemental information should back up which of the main three criteria you feel this meets (social, exercise, exploration) along with any advice the reviewer might need to feel confident that this exists where you say it does and is what you say it is. This is where you can provide links to support your statement. You could also provide links to articles rating this place to back up that it is a local hot spot.
As far as using an upgrade goes, I have two recommendations for new reviewers. First, go to Settings on the Wayfarer site and turn “Automatically apply upgrades” to “Off” so that an upgrade is never applied to something that you did not want to upgrade:
Second, wait at least 24 hours after submitting to apply an upgrade to see if the ML (machine learning ai) model will decide the nomination. If it is going to accept or reject a nomination, it usually acts within that time frame. (Unless you use upload later, in which case it could be sooner.)
That’s a lot, so I will stop there. Glad you have found the forum, and hope we can help you be successful!
Finally earned another upgrade to try again and my upgrade was automatically applied to my first nomination that has been in voting for over 2 weeks when i was learning. Such a dissapointment and waste of time.
oh no! i specifically mentioned turning off automatically apply upgrades. sorry that information got lost in the wall of text.
Thank you for taking the time tontry and help me. I have taken your advice, and hopefully I will figure out how to get that one approved. I have definetly upgraded my contribution game. I just hooe they actually look at them
We like helping
Let us know how it goes.
Thank you for your wisdom. I am about to post an update to show you how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me, and to show you that I took your advice and was deserving of your help.
I think I am getting better. Thank you for your wisdom. I am about to post an update to show you how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me, and to show you that I took your advice and was deserving of your help.
I was just sorry I let you down not getting that message across. Happy to help!
Here is an update of my most recent submissions after using the advice from the wonderful and helpful community here. I really enjoy helping create way points that will help my neighbors enjoy the games I enjoy, and I hope I am doing a better job. Creating this map is almost as fun to me as pokemon go itself, and I hope to help others enjoy the games as much as myself. Thank you everyone for your responses and input. I tried to thank each of you individually. I feel like I am doing a book report on each place I am submitting now.
Here is my resubmission for the Bravo Market as an outdoor dining patio based on Dadcaesar’s advice.
And the Karate Gym I had accidently auto upgraded after overlooking the value of the wonderful advice from Cyndiepooh. Figured I may as well get it done right since I burned an upgrade on it…
And a few of my other contributions based on advice received here:
You are wonderful for taking the time out of your day to help me. You made me want to keep going when the rejections got me down. Thank you!
Your reflection is very visible in this photo. I would recommend you withdraw and resubmit with a new photo.
It is so hard to get good pictures of these awesome locations, but I am going to withdraw it based on your recommendation. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time on bad submissions. This place is so awesome it does deserve to be nominated. If you look at google reviews, you can clearly see its importance to the community. How do you take good pictures without looking like a weirdo?
I don’t!
But I take photos without my reflection through a combination of techniques:
- Weather & Time: when it’s bright out, reflections are more likely
- Angle: I can sometimes avoid reflections by taking a photo that is either looking down a bit, looking up a bit, or from just off to the side
- Zoom: Sometimes I need to back up and use a bit of zoom to avoid a reflection
- Obstacles: sometimes I can hide myself behind a pillar or a bush
Lol I might look like a weirdo, but when there is a lot of glass, I focus on just the sign above the glass. Don’t use this photo because it is from Google Photos, but I would submit the place like with a photo like this
Usually if people ask what I am doing, they are happy to have me nominate their business.
FYI you have a typo on “restaurant” in the Bravo Market submission you should correct before it goes into voting. This is still going to be a hard nomination to get the community to accept, so plan to appeal.
I am surprised and pleased that the Cambridge Park one was not rejected by the ML (machine learning ai) model since the focus is a walkway. Please let us know how it goes.
One thing I would recommend in general is taking your photos before you start your nomination. That way you can look at your photos before you submit, and would notice things like your reflection. Also, with the tall photos your phone takes, your photos would probably look better cropped. I think you should try taking photos with your phone held horizontally. You can’t make adjustments to the photo (or the pin) after you submit, so take the photos first and then choose the existing photo option when you submit.
I feel like someone here went and submitted the karate dojo for me and got it approved. Either that, or someone else in the neighborhood is helping me. Most likely, in my opinion, someone here took the time to go through and create a better submission. If that is the case, you are a hero. All I need now is to get my new Bravo submission approved and I’ll have a nice route to walk my nephews and play!
